Hypnosis

“How about hypnosis?” I ask. “I’ve always wanted to see how that one works.”

“You bet.” My mother in law answers with a sly smile. “Just follow me up to the stage.” She takes me by the hand and leads me to the stage. We stand on stage, facing an audience of my female friends and family.

“May I have everyone’s attention, please?” My mother in law announces. “I will now hypnotise the birthday boy!”

I suddenly feel a bit nervous. “Just don’t make me do anything too embarrassing. Like cluck like a chicken or dance in my underwear.”

“No underwear. Got it!” She laughs. “Now close your eyes and just relax, clearing your mind.” She plays a ding from a metronome.
