Chapter 4 by Sconce3 Sconce3

What do you choose to study on Monday?

Magic Swordsmanship, obviously

Monday morning rolls around and you decide to pick Magic Swordsmanship based on your new friends' advice and the fact that it sounds cooler than Offensive Magic. You walk into your day 1 classroom only to realize that it's not an ordinary teaching environment. Instead of desks or chairs, there is a flat well lit stadium that you can only assume to be a fighting ring. There are bleachers on every side of the fighting platform for those observing the sword fights. There was no height distance between the start of the bleachers and the fighting area. The only thing separating them was a path and a solid white line lining the boundaries of the ring. The was also a spherical fixture centered above the fighting ring. It looked as if it was radiating a white light and you could tell it was some kind of sacred object. Something felt uneasy, however. In one of the training courts you could see faculty members cleaning what appeared to be blood off the sand-like flat floor. The danger of what could occur here seemed to dawn on you, but you decided to proceed into the classroom regardless.

You are instantly greeted by a faculty member who hands you a sword that has a blue sheath and matching lightweight armor. "These are your new uniforms. Please understand also that swords must remain sheathed on campus when you are not within the training areas" he told me. He then pointed me towards an arena where two senior members were fighting "please head in that direction. After those two are done sparring the class should commence". You head towards the fighting ring and seat down in a nearby bleacher. Their performance instantly encapsulated you as their swords both danced. Occasionally flames or waves of water would extend out of the blade as it swung in an attempt to destroy the opponent. However, as soon as the magic would hit the white boundary lines of the training area, it would instantly dissipate. You wanted only to learn this power as it was the most fascinating thing you have seen. Your undivided interest quickly turns into rapid concern as one of the swordsmen in the ring finally stabs his opponent through the chest and he falls over. The surrounding floor starts to stain in a familiar color and the crowd of students start clapping which makes you confused. After a few moments, however, the spherical fixture located center and above the fighting ring shines a beam of light into the fallen opponent and he instantly comes back to life. You are still scared of what is to come, but you are at the least more confident knowing that you will not actually die here - not permanently anyway.

How does class go?
