Chapter 2
by Sozka14
Who's first?
M'neisa, Miqote Pugilist
"Phew, good work Neisa!" The miqote stretched her arms above her head, popping joints strained by a tough battle. She ran her scuffed gauntlets through her short black hair and tidied her pony tail.
"Thanks Teacher! These idiots didnt stand a chance with you here." She responded, finishing stretching and looking around at the battlefield, their victory evidenced by the dozen assailants lying in various states of injury. Her fellow students were binding those fit to walk to be handed over to the Brass Blades for incarceration.
At last she sighed and began helping. She rifled through the pockets of those she finished binding, looking for concealed weapons, her last bind and search yielded results. The woman was a fellow pugilist and in her pockets she found a set of matching bracers with thin chain hanging from them. Remembering the fight that particular opponent had fought like a woman possessed, blocking her strikes perfectly and turning her own momentum against her. Only once her teacher had taken her by surprise, sweeping her leg from behind, had she managed to land a knockout blow. For now M'neisa pocketed the bracers and stood to drag the woman to line her up with her fellow bandits.
They waited a short while for the Blades to arrive and eventually the dozen soldiers they had sent arrived with a wagon to transport the prisoners, and the students of the Ul'dah Pugilists guild were left to their own devices.
"Okay everyone! Excellent work, we return now to the city, and i encourage you all to take your rest at the quicksand. Visit the guild tomorrow morning and we can debrief." Her teacher, an aged hyur by the name of Hamon, rounded up their couple of wounded members and with the assistance of a few other students began the walk back to the city.
"Teacher? Im going to stay out for a while, i need to visit Black Brush station for an errand before i can head back. Ill see you all in the sands later!" M'neisa set off, waving to her friends and walking the opposite direction. A short while later, while taking a rest in the merciful shade of a wide tree her curiosity won over and she took the bracers out to appraise them.
Interestingly they seemed to be a named item, her rough understanding of indentification magic told her that they were known as the bracers of the winding hand. They would greatly bolster her strength and speed and claimed to teach "Way of the winding hand". There were two strange properties, first it wouldnt allow her to equip her metal knuckles, and a second that resisted all her attempts to identify it, probably because it was so complex that her magics couldnt make sense of it.
"Mmmnneh, perhaps that enchantment will provide me with magical weapons, i wonder why that bandit wasnt using them if they were this powerful..." She thought for a moment, and finally decided.
"I can take them off once i get to the station, lets see what they can do." She removed her gloves and mundance bracers and slid her new bracers over her wrists. She stood and performed a few strikes against the tree, feeling significantly faster and leaving dents in the bark. She grinned and stepped back from the tree as she felt a gust of wind over her back. She shivered as it felt as if the wind traced a finger up her spine, her tail flowing with the gust.
She squealed as something seized her tail at the end, pulling it taut. Carefully turning while trying not to pull on her tail she looked over her shoulder and spotted something alarming. Holding on to her tail was a disembodied hand, it was partially see-through and huge, matching some of the strongest roegadyns she'd met. She reached for it, only for another hand to appear from thin air to knock hers away. The new hand attempted to grab at her wrist, but she pulled it away just in time and struck back.
Finally the hand holding her tail let go and she staggered back, facing down the two hands she dropped into a combat stance...
How will she fare?
