Loss

I wake up in the morning too the smell of bacon and eggs cooking. Mia is standing by the stove wearing nothing but the apron I wore last night while making us dinner.

She stirs the scrambled eggs and turns to face me. Walking over to me she kisses me." Goodmorning cutie pop." "Goodmorning, that smells delicious."

Suddenly the phone rings and Mia answers it then hands it to me. It's my mom. At first I stand in shock at what I'm being told,I can't bring myself to believe it. While in Connecticut visiting her father Tina and her dad were driving home from a restaurant when their car was struck by a drunk driver killing both of them.

Tina...my friend. My best friend since kindergarten. The one who I shared my secrets with and who shared hers with me. The friend that saw me through some very rough and confusing times in my life. The friend that brought me back from suicidal thoughts when I was going through puberty and was confused about what and who I was.....dead.

I drop the phone's receiver and Mia stares at me not knowing what is going on. She picks up the phone and talks to my mom. I stand in mute shock not hearing what's being said between Mia and my mom. I want to scream, I want to cry but all I can do is stand there. Tina had plans for her life. She was going to go with me to Ohio State. She wanted to become a veterinarian. She's now gone. She'll never laugh or cry again. Tina is dead.

I fall to the floor and scream. Mia hangs up the phone and rushes to my side and holds me in her arms as I begin to shake uncontrollably and burst into tears.
