Link gives in and lets her put the leash on.

Link didn’t want to put the leash on. He didn’t. He did. But he couldn’t escape now, that was clear. He didn’t want to escape at all. Reluctantly, Link padded forward and lowered his head, letting the kennelmaster affix the collar to his throat. It immediately felt constricting. And wonderful. Lashda looked down at him and smiled. “Good boy.” The words...they were wrong. They felt good. They shouldn’t have.

After that, Link continued training and performing any acts she wanted. Because he was scared of her. Because he wanted to please her. Every time she complimented him, part of him exulted in pleasure, while the other part feared what was happening to him. Every time she chastised him, part of him quaked in fear, while the other relished the opportunity to disappoint. The two sides warred inside of Link, the wolf and the human.

It only took a week of training for the wolf to win. The human parts of Link’s mind did their best, but the constant degradation and domestication was too much for him. Those aspects of him didn’t disappear, but they lost control of the driving seat. From there on it was the wolf behind the eyes, and the wolf was happy to prove his strength, agility, and stamina to this Twili woman who fed him and said nice things.

If Link’s mind was still as sharp as it once had been, he would have been surprised that it only took the kennelmaster three weeks to turn him from a wolf into a pet. The process was slow, weeding out his “bad” behaviors one by one. His sense of freedom, aggression, and pride were stripped from him one by one until nothing was left but a loyal hound.

When that loyal hound who had once been Link awoke on the one month anniversary of his involuntary incarceration, his simpler mind was happy, excited for a day of serving mistress to his best ability. When mistress came into the kennel, the other wolves at this point having still retained some sense of wolfliness, she looked directly at Link and smiled. “The Queen is ready to see you.”

The pet didn’t really understand too well what that meant, but mistress seemed to be happy, so this Queen person must be really nice! She led him by a leash through the castle to new areas he’d never seen before, full of new sights and exciting smells. His curiosity overwhelmed him at first, but after a gentle nudge from mistress the pet remembered its manners and stayed her course.

The room the pet was led to was much larger than the kennel or training room, and at one end was a big chair with a tall woman sitting down who looked very familiar. Once the pet was within a few feet of the woman, she looked at mistress and told her, “Leave me, all of you. I’d like to be alone with my new pet.” Then all the Twili left, leaving just the pet and the queen. She looked down at Link with a smile, and said, “They’ve really broken you, haven’t they, Link? Well, I have good news for you…”
