Chapter 20 by Genericc616 Genericc616

Left or right?

Left

You decide to pick the left door as your starting point and quickly open the door and find the passage beyond leads down the left-hand side which you begin to follow, remarking at the strange contrast to the previous room where the walls were pale, these walls were entirely black along with floor where the ceiling was made up of a light panels like you'd seen in various business buildings around town. With not much to distract you for the moment, you continue your running pace, thankful of your choice of shoe as you almost chose some slutty heels, but went against the idea when you didn't want to get the taxi right to your destination, as you had an odd sense of paranoia about someone recognizing you and the place you were being dropped off at.

Quite quickly you realize you're about to reach a turn as there seems to be something on the wall in which stood out due to the color but it wasn't until you got closer that you could make out that it was writing in a bizarre pink color with the I's dotted with an odd tiara symbol.

'Be mindful not to step on any cracks, because while they might not break anyone's back they might just help makes yours sore if you're not careful!'

You ponder the odd writing as you slow down your pace as you near the turning and then suddenly understand, as you see a series of patterns break up the black tiles of the floor, which reminds you a little of the crazy paving your father put down in the garden all those years ago, after Jamie's constant requests, after seeing some at a garden centre. You smile warmly at the fond memory as you remember you and Jamie helping him lay the stuff that weekend, an odd thing in hindsight given your father rarely does physical work around the house these days, but he did take every chance to enjoy time with you both as he could, before you got older and his work seemed to demand his attention more and more, you make a mental note to call your parents later and see how their holiday is going, as it dawns on you that you've not spoken in a long time, even longer for a casual talk, more recently its been about your future or the colleges you wanted.

You shake your head and refocus your attention as you remember what was at stake in this game you were in and study the black slabs broken up by white lines and quickly conclude that following the child like advice would slow you down considerably, and the fact you were up against the clock, albeit an unspecified time limit, and you wonder if this was a trap or a trick to slow you down. You reckon both would be things Tanya would do but you can't work out which was more likely as you steal a glance at pink writing with it's I's dotted with those bizarre tiara's wondering why Tanya would make such a strange touch on the font. You take a deep breath and look across the hallway ahead, and make your decision.

Do you go slow, or try and run over the cracks?
