Chapter 5 by takacube takacube

What's next?

Learning more about your new life

Through the next few days, with all of the tests and doctor chats, you were thinking that maybe you had somehow NOT survived and entered into a realm of hell that was reserved for the less fortunate. Nurses and needles, Saunders and his repeated admonitions of the NDA and the secrecy around the surgery. Even Kerry, his assistant, was annoyingly distracting with the updates on the medical side of things. In the end, though, the results were pretty much straight forward.

You were now 52 year-old Rebecca Reynolds, a married mother of 3 (formerly 4) children and grandmother to 5. You were also married to your father, James Reynolds, for the past 34 years (and sweethearts for 38). Prognosis was excellent, a clean bill of health and no apparent medical issues or hangups. If it weren't for the tricky bit about the brain transplant, you were perfectly fine.

Jordan, thank god for her, had been your constant companion since you awoke. She had explained that you had been out for 2 weeks and in that time, your former body had been released and cremated as per your wishes, your ashes were now sitting at home pending your recovery and a small celebration of life to scatter the ashes. Your dad had finished up his business trip and came back home early to help, though you weren't still sure how you would react to seeing him, knowing that he would definitely be treating you differently than the last time you met.

Your other siblings, your brother Daniel and sister Mandy, had also stopped by with their families and grandkids, evidenced by the cards and drawings that adorned the wall. You knew the kids all loved playing with your mom and, by extension now, you were going to be their "nana" or "grams". It was a bit weird to think about that as well, knowing that she was helping Mandy with her youngest, Julia, who was still breastfeeding. You looked down at the breasts hanging from your body (her body, though only for a moment) and then realized that you were somehow still a bit heavy.

"What about Pam?"

Jordan nodded as she looked at you for a moment. "Pam's doing fine, though she had the same issue as you did with regards to the accident. They managed to transplant her into her mother's body, just like you and mom's."

You blinked at that. "She's Diane?"

Jordan nodded again. "She's been released about a few days. I'll call her and let her know you're up. You two should talk..."
