Lauren's new in laws

The biggest problem with Lauren's relationships with David was Lauren's new in laws. David's family were wealthy elite, and came from a different world than Lauren' middle class upbringing. They clearly didn't approve of Lauren and David's rushed courtship, and were visibly shocked when they learned the pair was getting married.

Adding to the difference, they were old fashioned, serious and had a strange sense of humor. Lauren always felt picked on and looked down around them. David tried to assure her this was in her head, but Lauren couldn't help but think that the her new parents in law looked down on her.

That wasn't all. David had a big family with a lot of siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles. The family was very involved with each other, insisting on doing group activities. Everyone had inside jokes, and it just felt like a big club Lauren wasn't part of, but expected to spend her holidays and vacations with.
