Chapter 25 by Rhubarb Rhubarb

Late night Investigations

Your first day leaves your mind still reeling, too active for sleep. There’s nothing on TV. You don’t feel like watching YouTube or porn. Instead, to keep yourself distracted, you decide another dip into the Snetterton Collection makes sense.

You set the 3 statuettes to one side and dig in further. What emerges is a small leather cap. It fits comfortably over your head. Intriguingly it has a pouch at the top, closeable with a leather tie. The pouch is big enough to hold your hand, but little else. Having investigated the object, you pull out the antiquarian’s notebook and leaf through it. His conclusions are next to a well rendered drawing of the cap.

The cap of dreams, a sleeping cap. Doesn’t look like one, but he calls it that. And it’s supposed to be worn while asleep. Looks uncomfortable to be worn while sleeping, but then the idea of sleeping caps has long been discarded by culture. The idea of anything on your head, asleep or awake feels weird. Supposedly the wearer can enter and control the dreams of another person. That person is chosen by placing an object that has been in physical contact with the person for several hours during the previous day. The longer that object has been in physical contact the better the connection and the more control the wearer will have.

An object that has been in physical contact with the subject? For hours? The pouch isn’t very big. Your hand fits in. Not much else. Maybe underwear. Yes, underwear would fit it. You try it with some of yours, and that goes in. But you’d need someone else’s underwear to test it.
