Chapter 8

What Should Akira Do With The Orc?
Kill The Orc
After thinking for a moment about what he should do, he heard the sounds of the battle quieting down. He knew that whatever he was going to do, he had to do it now. In a moment of heated panic, Akira gripped his sword tightly before plunging into an opening in the orc's armour. Akira hated the feeling and stood there for a moment, watching the blue light fade form the orcs eyes as it then slumped to the floor. Akira's blade slid from the body. Akira stood there in shock for a moment before Ginny came sprinting around the carriage. She looked down at the dead orc and at Akira's blade now covered in blood.
"Good job Akira" She said.
Akira said nothing. Ginny sensing something was wrong approached Akira and put a hand on his shoulder.
"First time killing something?" she asked.
Akira nodded. He snapped himself out of his stupor and looked up at Ginny she had a heart-warming smile that made Akira feel a little better.
"You did good" She said. "If you didn't do it, it would have killed you. The others killed one of our guards as well as injuring two others. They are brutal beasts and you did what was necessary.
Akira knew Ginny was only trying to make him feel better but it still felt strange knowing he had now taken a life.
"I could use your assistance getting the injured back to Baxton if you're able" Ginny said before turning around and walking to the front of the carriage.
Akira followed behind Ginny to the front of the carriage. On the floor lay three men. One of the men was who Akira saw get attacked, another had a stab wound near his neck and the other...lay still. Ginny grabbed one of the guards who was still alive and wrapped his arm around her. Akira tried the same, although he had a much harder time holding the guard up. The carriage began moving again.
It didn't take long at all to reach Baxton from where they were. They had only been walking for ten minutes before Akira saw his first glimpse of the town. Giant wooden palisades spanned the border and on top were dozens of armoured men, all wielding bows. The gates to the town were huge and as the group got closer, they slowly creaked open. Once the group got inside Akira handed the injured guard off to another man who ran to assist them and he quickly looked around.
The town was a lot bigger than he expected it to be. Rows and rows of building spanned off in all directions. hundreds of people walking down each one. Smoke bellowed from chimneys rising into the air. Around a mile down one of the roads, Akira could just about make out what looked like a huge manor. It was twice as tall as all the other building around it.
"So, what do you think?" Ginny asked.
"It's...incredible" Akira said, struggling to keep his mouth closed.
Ginny laughed and patted Akira on the back.
"If you think this is impressive, you should see the city of Oakmar"
"Oakmar?" Akira asked.
"Yeh, the main city in the kingdom of Galdora. This town is just one of the king's fiefs, but it's the only major populace in this region of Galdora".
After everything that Akira had been through since coming to this new world, this had by far been the best. He was actually stood in the entrance of a fantasy town in a fantasy kingdom. He struggled to contain his excitement.
"Come" Ginny said, ushering Akira forward.
Akira had no idea where they were going but the street they were walking down was incredible. House after house, shop after shop. The smell of freshly made food reminded Akira that he hadn't actually eaten since he got here and was **** to go and try some of it but he also remembered that he had no money. That thought didn't stop him from being so excited though. After walking down what Akira assumed to be the main street for around ten minutes. Ginny finally took a turn to the right. They walked for another minute or so before stopping front of a smaller manor than the one Akira saw earlier but it was still extremely large.
"This is the town's guild. This is where the captain of the guard and all the other town leaders come to do business and what not" Ginny told Akira before continuing. "Wait out here for a second, I need to go and talk to my captain".
Ginny walked into the huge building, leaving Akira to look around for a moment. He remembered that Feya was also still in his pocket so quickly opened it up to ask if she was alright. She nodded but was keeping her head low in order to not be seen. After a few minutes, Ginny exited the building, this time with a man clad in the most extravagant armour Akira had ever seen. It was nothing like he had read or seen in books before. The chest plate had the symbol of a lion's head on it that was so well made, it could be mistaken as a real lion. The man inside the armour looked just as impressive. His face was muscular and his jawline was so clean it could cut a diamond in two. He had deep brown hair and even though his exterior looked mean and powerful, his eyes looked caring and careful.
"So, you're the one that helped my people" The man said in a deep, muscular tone. "I appreciate it"
The man held out a hand to shake Akira's. The moment their hands grasped each other, Akira thought the man was about to break every bone in his hand.
"My name is Heath, I'm the captain of the guard and the son of the king"
Akira's eyes opened wider than he had ever felt them go before. He was actually stood in front of royalty. The prince of the this kingdom himself and Akira just shook his hand. Akira felt like he might pass out but pushed through it all to introduce himself.
"I'm Akira"
"Well met Akira, seriously, thank you for assisting my men. We were not expecting an attack so close to the town so I apologise that you had to go through that. Anyway, I hear that you were having some memory issues and weren't sure where you were. I assume since that's the case that you have nowhere to stay. As thanks for helping my people, I will have a room at a nearby inn paid for you for a few days. I also want to give you this".
Heath held out his hand and dropped a small purse in Akira's hands. Akira opened it up and inside Akira saw a few gold coins. As grateful as he was, he felt as though he hadn't done enough to warrant all this reward.
"This really isn't necessary" He told Heath.
"Nonsense, those who help, deserve a reward. If you ever feel like you would like to help again, feel free to call on me here" Heath finished before turning around and leaving.
Ginny signalled Akira to follow her once again.
"I'm impressed. Very few people can get on Heath's good side in such a short amount of time" Ginny said.
Akira smirked. A thought had crossed his mind while following Ginny to wherever they were going. What now? He had managed to make it to the closest settlement but he had absolutely no idea what he do next. He knew he needed to find the stranger who saved his life but didnt know where to begin. He figured he needed to have another conversation with Feya once they were somewhere more private.
After a short walk, Ginny stopped outside of a long fancy looking building. The sign outside read "The Cackling Inn".
"Heath has already sent word about you here and has paid for a three night stay. After that, I'm afraid you're on your own." Ginny finished, looking slightly sad.
"Is there somewhere I can find you, if I need to talk to you?" Akira asked, wanting to see her again sometime.
"I'm uhh...I'm going to be going out on another mission soon. The orc numbers are gathering too heavily, so Heath is giving me a full squad to try and take out a few warbands. If I don't...die...I'll most likely be in the guild house should you need me for anything".
Akira nodded. For a second he considered offering to help with the whole raiding party thing but he knew he would just be in the way so he shook Ginny's hand and said his farewells before entering the inn. He spoke to a lady at the front of the building who told him what room he was in. He made his way upstairs, opened the door and immediately spotted the bed which he crashed down on. He also opened up his pocket allowing Feya to finally be free again.
"I heard that man give you gold, can we pleeeeease by a backpack soon". Feya asked chuckling a little.
"Don't worry" Akira began, sitting up a little. "We will get some rest hear for the night and in the morning, we can get food and find you a backpack"
Before Akira got comfortable in bed, he took one of the pillows and placed it on a nearby armchair for Feya. He wouldn't have minded sharing a bed with her, but he was worried he would crush her in his sleep. Before long, the two of them both closed their eyes and fell asleep.
