Chapter 23 by Tnaisawesome Tnaisawesome

What's next?

Kayla enters the bar

The door opened, and Kayla entered. It was like everything and everyone stopped in their tracks, time slowing down, a classic movie trope.

The fairly tall woman was wearing a tight-fitting green little dress that perfectly hugged her fit, curvy shape. She had pulled her red hair back and made a thick braid. The size of her breasts was impossible to hide, but she had made an effort. She looked elegant and yet too sexy to make even this version of me stay calm.

"You look stunning," I said, getting up to greet her.

"Thank you," she replied.

We hugged.

"What do you want to drink?" I asked.

"Nothing too strong, I have important classes tomorrow," she said, and turned to the bartender. "A glass of dry white wine, please!"

We moved over to a booth and I made sure to sit next to her, not opposite. She smiled.

"It was fun to see you try to keep up with us," she said.

"It was a challenge, but I like challenges," I replied.

"Most of us have played since we were kids," she said, "and this college is known for its team, so that you were able to almost keep up was impressive, even though we were just playing for fun."

"I like to exceed expectations."

She gave me an intrigued look, her eyes sparkly in the dimmed bar light.

"I see..." she said.

"You look astonishing in your dress, by the way," I added.

"Thank you!" she beamed. "I got it at Goodwill! Can you believe someone donated this? Hardly even used, and I got it for cheap."

"It was meant for you, I think," I said, "they probably didn't have your perfect figure for it."

She chuckled.

"Are you always this cocky?"

"Only when I see something I want," I said.

"You surprise me," she replied.

"Oh yeah?"

"There was something about you earlier that screamed 'nerdy guy who just got fit'. I can't really put my words on it, just some microexpressions, I think."

"That's interesting... and now?"

"I'm confused. You seem aware and wordly."

Her choice of words amused me. My lips formed a crooked smile while we looked at each other. She was very cute, and her lips were begging me to kiss them.

"What do you like to do when you're not playing volleyball?" I said, trying not to stare at her volleyballs.

"Well, I'm studying medicine, and I like to tra..."

"Medicine! I knew it!" I interrupted, a bit loud. "Nerd!"

She gasped, then laughed and pointed her finger at me.

"Nerd?! Says the guy who's obviously a STEM."

"I'm just following the money," I said, "and engineering is where it's at."

"Well, I'm following my dreams," she countered.

"Oh yeah, what are your dreams?" I asked and took her hand.

This caught her by surprise, but she didn't pull it away. Instead, she turned it around so my thumb was in her palm, and her index finger was in mine. The gentle touch felt surprisingly intimate, as we silently looked at eachother and smiled.

I noticed people were glancing over at us occasionally. She was _that _stunning.

"Short term or long term?" she asked, but didn't wait for my reply. "I think long term, I want to live in the good suburbs with my own practice, two kids and a great husband who cooks and cleans for me."

I nodded, grinning.

"I can cook," I said.

"And short term, I think I would like to get to know more people. I just got out of a - nevermind, I'm not getting into that, but yeah, I think I want to have some college fun."

"Sounds good," I replied.

"Which part?" she asked, her perfect smile almost making my hands shake.

"I like your ambitions, but I don't think you want a husband who's a stay-at-home dad. Not really. But I like your short term plans."

Kayla smiled, then pulled back her hand, reaching for her purse. She searched for something, then shook her head.

"Excuse me," she said, "I will be right back."

I sat back, watching her as she headed for the ladies' room. Her fit, round ass looked enticing in the skin-tight green dress. She was slightly mysterious, and I had no idea what she was up to.

My drink was gone, but I held the glass up and the bartender came over with a new one. I gave him a generous tip and asked for another glass of wine as well.

When Kayla came back, she saw the wine glass, grinned and drank it down in one fell swoop.

"Ready?" she asked, not sitting down. She took my hand and pulled me up.

I was not entirely sure.
