Kara goes to find someone to confide in.
Flying across the city of New Gotham, Kara sighed as she tried to calm down after chewing out her son. She was angry with him, FURIOUS even… But she also could not help but understand. Compared to the other lycanthropes in New Gotham, she and her other children were stuck like they were. Towering over humans like a wolf would among chihuahuas. The others at least could mingle with humanity during the day, hell they could fit in a café and not worry about their tails knocking over furniture or their heads breaking through the ceiling. Instead they were left to flitter around the canopy of the world tree like birds to keep from hurting anyone down below. Hovering several hundred feet above the city, the krypto-wolfess cross her two pairs of arms and mulled over the situation, her saurian tail flicking at her feet idly. She needed someone to talk to right now. The spiders meant well but she always found Babs to be a bit too snarky for her taste and she did not know Bastet or Lamia too well to really confide in. She blamed herself for not trying and planned to rectify that in the future, but who to talk to…
“Pamela…”
Smiling, Kara looked down at the streets of New Gotham in the moonlight, her eyes granting her telescopic vision to find the red wolfess she was looking for. Looking past one street after the other, she found the red wolfess just outside of Gotham. Her smile growing wider, Kara flew down to the ground where she found Aloe Vera tending to some of the overgrown parts of Gotham near the edge of the city limits. Casually walking through the streets of the more run down of the old parts of the city, waving her arms like a conductor while plant life grew and reclaimed the crumbling buildings on the city’s limits.
“Doing some midnight gardening Pam?” Kara called out before landing a few feet from the wolf Queen. Turning to look up at Kara, Pamela smiled, pausing in her work to approach her friend and share a hug between the two. “Welcome Kara, and yes, I find its easier to do this during the day, but I’ve been slacking of late.” Going back to her work, Kara watched as Aloe Vera willed ivy and vines to crumble the ruins further until all that was left was uneven stone and earth overtaken by rapidly growing plant life.
“Time claims everything, even things that are built, but that which goes away comes back as something new, that’s what the cycle teaches.” Smiled Pamela, raising her arms up as she willed a tree to grow and flourish in the rubble. For some time now the Red Wolfess had been busy bringing life back to what was for so long as a dead city. Resting her claws at her sides to admire her handy work and turn to look over her shoulder at the taller wolf behind her, She nodded back at the new addition to the landscape. “Speaking of things that are new, I take it you’re having trouble with your kids?”
“how did you know?”
Smirking and rolling her green eyes, the red wolfess turned to face Kara again. “I’m a mother of forty-two kids Kara, I know the look I make when one of my sons or daughters push buttons they shouldn’t.”
Blushing hotly from her snout, Kara tried to keep up a strong front from that admission until Pam scoffed and waved her off. “Please Kara, honestly out of all of us, you’ve got the least kids to keep an eye on. Sometimes you should see Harley deal with her kids. I swear with the way they crack jokes all the time she must have been a hyena. Her twins Abott and Costello are a REAL handful. So, who was it this time? Kor’el? Juri’el? Don’t tell me that Tami’el has gotten into trouble again, I’ve seen her hovering over my son Thorn like a bumblebee the last few days.”
“Karn’el… He’s been testing my rule as alpha.”
“Boys… They think they can be men until they are, the ones who stay as men are the REAL keepers.” Chuckled Pamela, combing her claws through her mane of flower blooming hair. “That’s ONE of the reasons I love Bruce so much, he’s committed, willful, brave, sacrifices...”
“Right… and the fact he’s wild in bed has nothing to do with it.”
“Pfff… Sister, it has EVERYTHING to do with it!”
Sharing a laugh together, the two continued to walk down the rest of the regrowth Aloe Vera had been working on, what was once a dead street had become a stunning garden, one that would bloom with colour once the sun would come up in the morning. The ring of flames that once encaged the city had left a scorched ring, a scar that for the better part of five years Aloe Vera had been healing.
“Still, you’ve had quite the dry spell of late Kara, that’s not healthy for a lycanthrope, why don’t you come with me back to the core of the world tree, come with me into the Umbra to relax and get away from it all.”
“The Umbra?” Blinking back at the offer, the krypto-wolf hesitated on an answer, her spines rattling behind her out of reflex. “I don’t know… What about my kids?”
“The umbra exists outside of time Kara, you can spend weeks in there and come back an hour later or spend minutes and come out a month later, it all depends on how much time you need and when you’re needed back… Besides, if it makes you feel better, Bruce’s son Damien will be coming home to New Gotham in a few months to keep an eye on the city, he’ll be eighteen by now.”
“Damien? When did THAT little brat grow up?!”
Giggling to Kara’s reaction, the two made their way through the city to the heart of the world tree.
