Jessica 32F, The Mayor

When people think of Jessica the first word that comes to mind would be dedicated. As a child whenever she wanted something she’d chase after it no matter what it took whether it was a new toy, a boy she liked, or an award. That dedication only grew more and more as she reached adulthood working harder than anyone else to get the things she wanted.

So when Jessica decided to announce her candidacy for the mayor of her city everyone knew she was dead serious. The battle was long and hard but in the end she came out victorious only narrowly beating her opponents. Joy and excitement filled Jessica but in the back of her head a sense of nervousness started to grow.

You see when it came to Mayor’s this city had one interesting rule. Decades ago her the city’s mayor was arrested after being caught taking bribes from a local crime family.

After this the citizens were unable to trust the next mayor. Constantly he was insulted saying he’s just another crook. That was until one day when the new mayor proudly announced to the city that so long as he was mayor he shall not wear shoes. It was silly and again the insults continued but true to his word everywhere the mayor went he never wore shoes not even during the summer when walking on hot asphalt. Due to his dedication and sacrifice the insults finally stopped and the people trusted the city’s mayors again.

‘Why did this make Jessica nervous?’, you ask. You see just before this mayor retired a local law was passed saying that before a mayor can be sworn into office they must follow in the mayor’s footsteps and give up one thing. It acted as a way to show a person’s dedication to the city as well as a way to weed out the week.

The more and more Jessica though about it the more terrified she became about what she’d have to give up.
