Chapter 3

who gets it?
Jeff, a 20 year old college student
Jeff was lounging in his parents' house. They were on vacation, and he was house-sitting as he was on summer break from college where he was between his sophomore and junior year as a history major.
It was late morning, and he heard a thump at the front door. He opened it and found a small ornate wooden box. He did not see anyone. He picked up the box and opened it. Inside was a pocket watch. The time was set. "Hmmm." He closed the door and went back to the couch. On TV was Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. He twisted the knob on top to see if the watch had any functions.
Jeff noticed the movie started to slow. He thought it was a problem with the TV station. He picked up the remote and changed over to the Weather Channel. The meteorologist on TV seemed to be talking and moving slowly. He then thought it had to be something wrong with the TV. He stood up and glanced out the window. A car was driving by very slowly. Jeff looked at the watch. He turned the dial all the way, and the car seemed to stop as did the meteorologist.
Jeff turned the dial back the other way, and the car drove by and the meteorologist went back to speaking and moving normally. "Holy fuck!"
The doorbell rang.
Jeff opened the door and a woman in a black suit and white blouse was there with a binder. She had a big smile.
"May I help you?"
"Yes, my name is Lina, and I'm collecting signatures to get Wanda Kanter on the ballot this fall for the school board."
Jeff had heard of Wanda Kanter. She was the wife of a wealthy businessman, and her big issue was controlling what books were available in school libraries. Jeff turned the dial, so that it appeared the woman was frozen. He went into the house and found a black Sharpie. He came back and drew a handlebar mustache, goatee, and unibrow on the woman then drew and big L on her forehead. In one more fit of immaturity, he gave the woman a massive wedgie.
He put the Sharpie on the small table by the door and turned the dial. The woman squirmed a bit and her smile faded a bit but did not notice anything on her face.
Jeff signed the petition, using the name Ivan Itchiaz.
The woman thanked him and left. Jeff closed the door and pumped his fist. He tried to figure out how the watch worked, then said "Fuck it!" He grabbed his wallet and keys. He knew where to head to have fun with this new item.
where does he go?
