January Week 2: Saturday-Spend time on selfcare (Luck: +10)

It was nearly 11 by the time she finally emerged, hair impressively tousled and wearing nothing but one of Jonathan’s ancient Star Wars t-shirts. She padded to the kitchen and found fresh coffee waiting for her—Jonathan was a hopeless romantic in small, predictable ways. She poured herself a mug, and sipped it at the window, watching the neighborhood dogs attempt to out-bark one another in the January chill.

Jonathan was already in the next room, headset on, deep in the throes of multiplayer combat. Leah heard him shout “Noob! Eat it!” and roll back in his chair, triumphant, the kind of nerdy pure joy that reminded her why she loved him even on days when he forgot to fold the towels. She watched him for a moment, leaning in the doorway, remembering the first time she’d seen his lopsided, eager grin—a memory equal parts sweet and mortifying, considering it had been at a toga party in grad school, and she was two and a half sheets to the wind.

She decided to leave him to his digital carnage and indulge in a bit of self-care. Leah booked a late-morning yoga class at the expensive little studio downtown, the one with the eucalyptus towels and enviable natural light, and made it there with a few seconds to spare. She spent the next hour pretending she was the kind of woman who did yoga every Saturday and never ate cheese fries from the teacher’s lounge, feeling her body loosen and her mind unclench with each inhale.

After class, she drifted through the little boutiques near the studio, running her fingers over racks of overpriced, bohemian-chic sweaters and touching perfumes she had no intention of buying.

By late afternoon, Leah found herself at home again, curled up on the couch in an oversized cardigan and reading a new trashy historical fiction novel. The book was a fevered mess of powdered wigs, forbidden love, and scandalous duels, and she devoured it with a relish reserved for only the best literary junk food. Jonathan, having exhausted his store of digital enemies, joined her at some point, snuggling up against her side and reading Reddit on his phone.

They passed the day like that, two lazy animals in a winter den, sometimes talking and sometimes not, the minutes slipping by on a tide of comfort and quiet togetherness.
