Chapter 2 Interlude 2 – Rogue Chosen

“Thank you so much.” Janel came forward and bowed once again. “I promise you’ll not regret choosing me.” She smiled widely at Kaylen, trying to present gratitude and hide any anxiety she might have been feeling about working alongside a mage. She knew, logically, that he was entirely different than the mage who’d banished her mother, but it was hard to put aside years of mistrust the woman had instilled in her.

“You are very welcome.” Kaylen acknowledged her bow with a nod of his head. “I’ll speak with you more shortly.” He promised then turned back to the guild master.

So Janel moved to where the other candidates had arranged themselves, and bowed as she introduced herself yet again. She was at once equal parts excited and anxious with this new chapter of her life, putting herself outside of her comfort zone.

It wasn’t long before Kaylen approached them.
