Jake suggests they ditch host duties

Jake looked at the clipboard, and then looked at Abbie. "How did we get stuck with this?"

Abbie smiled. "Come on, Jake. It can't be too hard. It's like a PR event. Easy stuff." She sipped her champagne.

"I guess we could ..." said Jake slowly. "Or ..."

Abbie raised an eyebrow. "Or?"

"Or we could just leave the clipboard by the door, hope people check themselves in, and ..." He trailed off.

"And what, Jake? Do you have something in mind?"

"Well," began Jake. "The way that Phoebe person was looking at you. Seemed a bit flirty."

"Jake!" Abbie said, with a bit of shock in her voice. "They're a couple. We don't need to get in their way. Besides, they need to finish what they started this morning, don't they?"

"Exactly," said Jake. "Go on, tell me you didn't think Phoebe was hot."

Abbie paused, and looked at the floor. She looked back up to Jake and said, "Well, yes. She's definitely hot."

"And they're looking for a quickie somewhere. It won't be private. Don't you want to, I don't know, check it out?"

Abbie blushed a little. "Jake, I'm ... well, I guess I'm not surprised at you. And yes, since you asked, of course I want to spy on them. They were both very attractive!"

"I thought so too," added Jake. "I'm so glad we are of the same mind on this."

They stepped back out into the hallway. There was a small table just inside the door, and they dragged it out, placing the clipboard on it.

"There, do you think people will know what to do?" asked Abbie.

"I don't know. But it can't be so important. Megan and Phoebe ditched their job to two randos so they could go have sex."

Abbie wrote on the clipboard: 'check off your names when you arrive, please!' She left the board leaning against the wall, hoping it might draw more attention. "There, do you think that'll work?"

Jake nodded. "It'll work well enough. Let's go."
