Chapter 2 by Obelx Obelx

Look at your phone

Jake opens his phone

As the phone booted up, Jake noticed something strange. A new icon had appeared on his home screen—a simple spiral, black and white, with no label or name beneath it. He didn’t remember downloading anything recently, and the icon looked nothing like the apps he normally used.

Confused, he tapped on the icon, but nothing happened. He tried again, with the same result. Frustrated, he held down on the icon, intending to delete it, but the usual option to uninstall didn’t appear. The app seemed stuck, immovable, as if it had become a permanent part of his phone.

Jake sighed, setting the phone down. Maybe it was just some weird glitch, or maybe a virus from one of the sites he’d visited. Either way, he was too tired to deal with it now. He decided he’d figure it out in the morning, after he’d had some sleep.

He powered down his laptop, climbed into bed, and tried to push the strange app out of his mind. But as he drifted off to sleep, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t right, that his phone—and whatever that app was—might be more than just a harmless glitch.

Do you want to go to sleep?
