Chapter 8 by brothersammywilson brothersammywilson

To the basement?

It isn't that easy

After taking a moment to compose herself after that close call, Anna skipped the remaining doors and made her way to the basement. She had had enough of the near misses. She needed to at least find the missing women. She needed a win.

She opened the door to the basement, or at least what she thought was the door to the basement. What it turned out to be was the door to a long, dark, descending stairwell. The stairwell is so dark, in fact, that she cannot see what sits at the bottom.

Not one to rush in foolishly, Anna pauses to let her attuned senses take over. She senses the presence of the incubus, having already experienced his demonic influence, but notices it is incredibly faint. This stops her in her tracks for a moment, racking her brain for any time she would have seen something like this in the past.

It suddenly hits her, she had slain a greed demon that had infused its essence into a bank in Georgia. The incubus had cast some sort of ward on the narrow hallway, probably anticipating her need to come through this way to face him.

This left her with a choice. She could risk whatever infernal warding was in the hallway, hopefully reach her target quicker, or try to find another way around, but risk whatever else was in the house.

What does Anna decide?
