Chapter 99 by FlatCap90210 FlatCap90210

Wait. Red tinge?

It has to be a play of the light.

"Wait... no, what?" Jess' hand rose to the side of her head, touching her hair.

"No, seriously. I know we haven't seen each other for months, but I definitely remember you having brown hair." Sorting her certainly not all that healthy breakfast, Charlie gave her friend an inquisitive look. "What did you use? Sally said she wanted to try something new, and that color looks amazing."

"But... Ah didn't..." Taking a lock of hair, Jess pulled it in front of her right eye and saw that indeed, there was an undeniable red hue to her hair. "M-Maybe it's the sun reflectin' off it...?"

"You think?" Taking a bite of her bacon, Charlie leaned away from the sun and squinted at Jess' hair. "But it looks reddish in the shadow as well."

Jess opened and closed her mouth, unable to articulate her confusion. Hair didn't just change color on a whim like that!

"Okay." Charlie sat back up straight and put down her food, fixing her now also redheaded friend with an inquisitive look. "What is going on, Jess? You're strange today. Either totally hyped up or, well, like this. I know you don't want to talk about it, but... I want to help. Does it have something to do with, uhm, yesterday?"

Again, Jess opened her mouth and closed it again without saying a word; but... Charlie was her best friend. If she could talk about yesterday with anyone, it would be her. And Cathy, of course, but her colleague had been there with her, and...

"Yeah, it..." Taking a deep breath, Jess began to talk about the strange guest and what he'd done, staring at her lap as her face burned. "...and then Ah had his, uh, stuff on mah face, and..."

"Stuff? I hope it was hair dye, sweetie, because otherwise... eww." Charlie visibly recoiled, but kept eating nonetheless. As a nurse, it took a little more than bodily fluids to ruin her appetite.

"No, it was his..." Jess lowered her voice to a whisper. "... His... male juices!"

"Eww it is, then. Fucking perv." Charlie replied and took a sip of her coffee, shuddering with delight. "Damn, Cathy knows to make a good coffee. Anyways, the guy got arrested, right? Please tell me he got arrested."

"No, actually, he... got away..." But Jess didn't know if she would have felt better if the guy had gotten arrested. That said, aside from the embarassment she felt recounting yesterday's events, she didn't feel all that bad. Instead, she felt full of energy and ready to tackle her shift. "But Ah'm sure they'll find him, and, well, maybe Cathy was right and it was a really disgustin' prank!"

"Let's hope so, but even then, that would guy is the worst. And there it was again. First you're down and then all hyper." Stuffing the last bits of bacon into her mouth, Charlie wiped her mouth with a napkin. "I believe you when you say you're alright, but could you do me a favor and talk to someone qualified? I can set something up at the hospital, if you want."

"Ah don't know, actually... Maybe once Ah had time ta think a little more. But right now, Ah feel more or less fine." And Jess wasn't putting on a front; in the end, it had been good to talk about things. And maybe, if she found herself needing to talk more, she'd take up Charlie on her offer. "Now, why dontcha tell me about that show you wanted to watch? Ah've still got a little time before mah shift."

Speaking of which: How is the shift gonna go?
