Chapter 22 by extreme1000

Who is calling?

It's Cyclops

"Rogue, I'm glad you picked up." Scott Summers said as she answered.

Rogue felt a bit of relief at hearing his voice, but then she felt panic as her brain questioned just why he'd be calling her instead of Jean.

Had he found out about her and Flex and, if he had, was he going to boot her from the team for it?

In particular, she wondered if that little shit Hack had sent Scott something that exposed that she'd been fucking Flex.

She had a bad feeling that Hack was way more dangerous than she'd realized.

Rogue tried to sound calm and cool as she asked him what was up.

She was mentally coming up with as many excuses as she could, just in case he did know the truth about what she'd been up to.

"I just wanted to check in on you, how are you holding up?" He asked, which set her at ease.

"Ah'm holding up ok, how are you?" She asked him, still wondering why he would call.

"I'm doing as best as I can, all things considered." He began.

"I assume your contacts inside The Muties have already filled you in on what happened a few hours ago." He said.

Rogue was, for a second time, feeling anxious as she tried to figure out what was going on.

There was a tone in Scott's voice that already told her that something had gone wrong.

"Ah'm still trying to get their trust, so Ah got no clue what's going on." Rogue declared.

Scott let out a sigh before he explained that the Muties had attacked the X-Men again.

"Rogue...one of them really went after Gambit, like there was something more going on." He said.

Rogue felt herself get a little sick as she knew exactly who Scott was talking about.

"What did he look like?" Rogue asked, trying to sound clueless.

There was a long pause from Scott as he clearly was realizing something was up.

"He was a rather large man who seemed like he was more muscle than person." Scott said, wondering what was going on.

"Yeah, that would be Flex." Rogue sighed, deciding to face this head on.

Scott immediately recognized the name as the person Rogue would have had to talk to in order to get entry into the Muties.

"So, I'm guessing yo know him?" Scott asked, hoping he could get some more info on the guy.

"Sorta, Ah've been trying to butter him enough to get me into the group, but he's keeping me at arms length." Rogue said, hoping Scott would buy it.

"Any idea why he went after Remy, in particular?" Scott asked.

"Pretty sure he's got a crush on me." Rogue began.

"Ah've been trying to play into that and doing things like flirting a bit and flashing a little cleavage, but he's barely budged, guess my little strategy has been more effective than I realized." She said.

"Keep working on him, this little incident was proof that your plan is working like a charm and, if you keep the pressure on, it probably won't be too long before he cracks." Scott said buying her explanation.

Rogue gave him a 'will do', before they said their goodbyes and hung up.

Rogue felt a surge of anger going through her body that reminded her just what this mission was all about: stopping The Muties.

She had, briefly, allowed herself to get lost in a haze of sex and drugs, like she'd been allowed to finally blow off years of steam and experiment in ways that had been denied to her for years.

Between the attack on The X-Men and her little run in with Hack earlier, Rogue realized that the fun was over and she had to refocused.

She wanted to have a very long (and probably painful) talk with Flex the next time she saw him.

She realized that it probably wouldn't be wise to do anything that could cause Flex to sever ties with her, but Rogue could be a person of pure emotion if she was pushed far enough and she was definitely in the right head space to do something drastic.

A part of her wanted to stay the course and another part of her wanted quick vengeance.

Rogue was going to have to make a choice and make it quickly.

What does Rogue choose?
