Chapter 68

The woman...
Is from a senior class named Blake
You dismiss your women letting them find new information for you. You'll conquer the older student from a different class. Her beauty was a quiet, classical thing, a stark contrast to the overt sensuality of Violet or the bratty fire of Gina. This was Blake, a senior you'd seen in the halls, a prodigy in technical analysis and support strategies. You'd never spoken to her. She was one of the "serious" students, the ones who treated this academy like a monastery and their powers like a sacred trust. She was, in short, exactly the kind of person who should despise you on principle. Which made her all the more interesting.
"You're a long way from heaven," you said, your voice a low, even rumble that cut through the pulsing beat of the music.
Blake flinched, but she held her ground. Her grip on her glass tightened, her knuckles white. "And you're a little too on the nose with the costume," she replied, her voice a cool, clear soprano that held a surprising amount of steel. She wasn't intimidated. She was annoyed. That was... refreshing.

You chuckled, a low, dark sound. "Honest. I like that. Most people just see the mask and the suit and assume I'm some kind of misunderstood anti-hero." You leaned in slightly, your presence a palpable weight. "They're not wrong. But they miss the best part."
"And what's that?" she asked, her chin lifting defiantly.
"I'm not misunderstood at all," you purred. "I'm exactly what I look like. And I always get what I want."
A pretty flush rose on her cheeks, either from the proximity or the sheer audacity of your words. "Is that so? And what is it you want, Hades?"
You let your gaze drift over her, a slow, deliberate perusal that took in the soft curve of her lips, the graceful line of her neck, the subtle swell of her breasts beneath the modest fabric of her dress. You saw the way her breath hitched, the almost imperceptible tremor that ran through her. She might have the will of a saint, but she had the body of a sinner. And she knew it.
"I think you know," you said, your voice dropping to a low, intimate murmur. "But this isn't the place for it. Too many eyes. Too many ears." You straightened up, taking a step back. "Enjoy the party, angel."
You turned and walked away, leaving her standing there, a look of stunned confusion on her face. You didn't push. You didn't demand. You simply planted the seed. Let it grow. Let her wonder. Let her dream. You'd give her a taste of the darkness, and then you'd pull back, leaving her craving more. You had already given her a taste of your special juice.
You returned to your throne, a secluded alcove where Violet was already holding court, Gina standing guard like a gargoyle, and Kimmy fluttering around, offering drinks and whispers to anyone who approached.
You watched Blake from across the room. You saw her finish her cider, her movements a little shaky. You saw her glance over at you, a flicker of something unreadable in her eyes. You saw her friend, a mousy girl in a witch costume, come up to her, whispering something in her ear. Blake shook her head, her expression firm.

But the poison was already in her system. The aphrodisiac, the truth serum, the inhibitor loosener. It was a subtle cocktail, but it was effective. You saw her shift her weight, a subtle, **** gesture of discomfort. You saw her bite her lower lip, a nervous habit she probably wasn't even aware of. You saw her gaze keep returning to you, a mix of fear and fascination in its depths.
She was fighting it. You could see the struggle in her, the war between her ingrained righteousness and the dark, shameful curiosity you had awakened. But it was a losing battle. The chemicals in her system were on your side. So was the allure of the forbidden. And so, most importantly, was you.
You waited. You were a predator, and you knew the value of patience. You watched her, a dark, amused smile on your face, as the party raged on around you.
Then you saw her make her move. She excused herself from her friend, her movements a little unsteady. She didn't head for the exit. She headed for the bathrooms. And you knew, with a certainty that thrilled you to your core, that she wouldn't be going straight there. She would take the long way. The way that led past your throne.
She did. She walked along the edge of the ballroom, her wings brushing against other partygoers, her gaze fixed straight ahead. But as she drew near, she slowed. She risked a glance in your direction, her blue eyes wide and uncertain behind her silver mask. You met her gaze, your expression unreadable.
She walks over to you. "So Hades I hear your the best in your class? I'm Blake by the way." The **** seems to be working.
You let a slow, lazy smile spread across your lips, the expression hidden by your mask but clear in your eyes. "Blake," you murmured, her name a soft, deliberate roll on your tongue. "The angel. The top of the senior class. I know who you are. Your reputation for finding weaknesses in your opponents precedes you."
You saw her flush, the color blooming on her cheeks even in the dim light. The compliment, mixed with the subtle implication that you knew of her, was a calculated strike. It disarmed her.
"I... I just do my work," she stammered, her composure cracking. The carefully constructed wall of the serious, focused senior was beginning to crumble under the combined **** of the **** and your overwhelming presence. "And I wouldn't say best. That's a strong word."

"It's the only word that matters," you countered smoothly, your voice a low, confident rumble that seemed to bypass her ears and settle directly in her bones. "Why settle for second place? For 'good enough'? That's for people who are afraid to see what they're truly capable of." You gestured to the empty space beside you on the velvet-cushioned bench. "Sit. You look like you want to talk with me."
