Invite the ladies out for lunch

“Hey, I know you…” Emma says, pointing at you before you can duck and run.

Sabrina immediately looks at you, distraught. You jump in, ready to cover for her.

“Emma, right? So, Sabrina tells me you’ll be staying the whole week with her,” you pipe in.

“If not longer,” Emma grins, glancing at her sister knowingly.

You recall their conversation in bed where Emma was convincing Sabrina to let her stay longer, but you pretend to have no idea what she is talking about.

“Hey, since you’re pretty new in town, how about I take you and Sabrina out for lunch? My treat!” you offer.

Emma lights up at free food. “Oh! That sounds great! I was going to bum a meal off Sabrina, but getting fed by a handsome guy like you is even better!” she replies.

You look at Sabrina for her answer. She shrugs, looking perturbed at her sister flirting with you, but not prepared to present alternative meal plans.

“Alright then, I’ll drive!” you tell them, guiding them down to the parking garage.

There’s a local pub that everyone goes to that you intentionally avoid. Running into people who know you and Sabrina from work has the potential for trouble now that Emma is tagging along. You opt to take the ladies to a bistro a few blocks down. It’s a longer drive but you convince them that the food is worth the trip.

When you arrive, you are promptly seated and given menus.

“So…” you say, breaking the ice after a rather silent car ride. “I hear you’re looking for work, how’s that coming along?” you ask the young blonde.

“It’s slow,” Emma admits. “I mean, I just moved into town, so I hardly know anyone or anywhere to go…”

Sabrina rolls her eyes, having heard this excuse before.

“You know, I’ve been thinking that maybe I could work from home. There’s lots of side hustles I could do to make money,” Emma continues.

“Yeah? Anything that looks promising?” you ask.

“Maybe I could do some modeling,” she answers nonchalantly. Sabrina coughs up her drink.

“Modeling? Have you done that before?” you ask.

“Not really, but I’m beginning to come out of my shell now that I’m out here,” Emma explains. From your periphery, you notice Sabrina clench her fist as her forehead throbs in irritation. Emma takes notice and adds, “Well, I would never have even considered it until after the party last Friday. Everyone here seems so comfortable showing off their bodies!”

You try to keep the conversation neutral so that Sabrina doesn’t become more aggravated.

“Well, doing that in the privacy of your own home is one thing, but having the whole world see you like that? Do you think you could handle that?”

“I don’t know, but I’ve been discovering new things about myself every day!” she says, giving Sabrina a side eye and impish grin.

You get the feeling Emma is referencing her night with Sabrina to get a rise out of her sister, but she doesn’t know that you already know. Sabrina plays it off since it was a vague reference. You give her a knowing glance and she hides her smirk. You could easily play Emma by getting her to admit to her family affair, which won’t result in Sabrina being humiliated because you already know.
