Investigate sewers

Rasa waited, by the bridge, in the afternoon sunshine, while the goblins chattered amongst themselves.

"Oi," Specs said.

Rasa blinked and looked at him. "Huh? What?"

"Look like you're lost in thought," the goblin said. He nodded. "Wassup?"

"Oh," Rasa said. "I just wondered why they built a bridge over this...this area. It's a rather big bridge."

"Oh, aye," Specs said. "Big enough. Have carts going in both directions without hitting each other. This used to be a river, see?" He pointed. "See how the ground, uh...the ground curves?"

Rasa nodded. The land did slope downward; she could easily imagine a river flowing beneath the bridge. The ground beneath her feet was mostly smooth stones, with grass growing in the cracks between. "So the river dried up?"

"Most of the water used by the city," Specs said. "But we got a little, until recently...oh?" The chattering had died down. "We good to go? Awright, we good to go!" With much hooting and cheers, the goblins started off, and Rasa went along with them.

The dry riverbed led to a hole beneath a road, big enough to ride a horse into. Several goblins produced torches; the tunnel was built of stone, or at least tiled. There were narrow walkways on either side, but the party walked through the central gutter. Occasionally Rasa's foot splashed in a puddle. She held her wooden baton at the ready, walking near the front of the party.

Soon they reached a large, dim cavern where several tunnels met. "Oi, Stan," Specs said. "Where's the water come from?" A red-skinned goblin strutted forth, and he started examining the tunnel mouths.

"Stan?" Rasa echoed. "Isn't...er...I just assumed Scout was your scout?"

"Oh, aye," Specs said. "Scout is our scout, but Stan is our tracker. He can track down anything." Stan waved them into one of the tunnels.

As they walked, Rasa felt her foot land on something soft. "Hey," she said. "What's—ahhhh?!?" Something yanked on her ankle, sending her stumbling.

Shouts erupted around Rasa. Suddenly the walls with alive with writhing green tendrils. Rasa was dragged along on her back for several meters before she managed to draw her knife and slice through the ropy things. She scrambled to her feet, while the goblins fought around her.

Suddenly all was still. The tunnel was silent, except for ragged breathing. Specs held up a tendril. "Plant," he said. "Look! 'Sgot leaves."

Rasa steadied her breathing, and she straightened her armor. "It's a big plant?"

"Guess so," Specs said. He waved. "C'mon."
