Into the woods

Standing there lost wasn't going to gain any result. With a nod of her head, the navigator swallowed her remaining hesitation and walked on further. So long as she kept in a straight line, she figured she'd have to break the foliage eventually.

However logic in this land proved meaningless, as the lone pirate soon realized after several hours of walking. She was certain she was following the path, and yet... How many times had she passed that same tree? That same grove of flowers?

As she suspected, the land itself wasn't going to play fair. If this was the same forest as before, then certainly every shrub and every branch were alive in their attempt to keep her here. Slowly her feet came to a stop. She turned... only to see that the path she had been following was gone.

"Hey..." she took a step back, wary of the trees steadily closing in on her. "This isn't funny!"

Eyes and mouths appeared on the scores of trees around her, revealing themselves at last. Tendrils of roots and branches snaked out, ready to grab their prey at a moment's notice. Now that their secret was found out, there was no longer any point of playing coy.
