Intervention

Jessica rose to her feet and walked around to Roxanne’s right. She was slightly taller than Roxanne and dressed in a suit, but Jessica obviously worked out. A passing thought reminded Roxanne of Skyler, whom she’d dismantled with her Roxy Cutter.

“These games of yours. They don’t lose willingly, do they?”

“What’s your point?”

“I’m saying that if they’re not embarrassing themselves willingly, you’re doing it for them. But what if things didn’t go how you wanted?”

Roxanne also rose to her feet. The sisters were now inches away from each other.

“I don’t lose because I’m much, much smarter than them.”

Jessica lowered her tone. It almost sounded caring. “I don’t want you to get hurt because of this. Think about what it would be like if you were that poor girl, you put up on your website yesterday. Remember, there’s always someone smarter and stronger than you.”

“Then I’ll beat them like I beat all the others.”

Jessica regarded her sister for a moment. “You know what, fine. Have it your way. I’ve tried to ask you to stop. I’ve tried to tell you what could happen when you fuck up – because you are this family’s embarrassing little fuck-up – now I’m telling you, stop it.”

Roxanne felt the anger swelling inside her. “No. And guess what? I’ve got another friend coming over today.”

Her sister’s ravishing red lip curled upwards in disgust. “Think about it. I’ll let you have your friend all to yourself, but if you don’t tell me you’ll stop in the next 24 hours, I’ll come for you myself. You won’t mess up this family’s reputation, you nasty little freak.”

Jessica jabbed Roxanne in the forehead with her index finger. She recoiled and batted pathetically at the finger, missing it altogether.

“You… shut up!”

But Jessica had already gone back into the mansion before Roxanne could think of a creative quip to throw back at her sister. Seething at the exchange, Roxy kicked out at the chair, flipping it over.
