I laughed and apologized

"Sorry," I said, picking up my Coke again. "Couldn't help myself."

A few guys wandered over to a nearby table, so Shreya and I straightened up, putting some distance between us. She grabbed a fry and held it out toward me. I leaned in and took a bite, glancing around the canteen idly.

"So where are you taking me?" Shreya asked, munching on another fry.

"There's a new cafe that opened near school," I said. "Thought we could grab lunch there first. Then catch the bus to your place."

Shreya had already told me her parents were out for the day and wouldn't be back until late tonight.

She nodded. "What did you tell your mom? You know the reason about coming home late?"

I let out a breath. "Told her I'm hitting the library with some classmates. Group project."

"She bought it?"

"Hopefully," I said then continued. "My mom worries about everything. Plus she's old-school. She thinks having a girlfriend will tank my grades or something."

Shreya grinned. "That's why we only hang out at my place, huh?"

"Exactly. If she knew I was spending time alone with a girl, she'd have a meltdown."

Shreya rolled her eyes, popping another fry in her mouth. "Your mom seriously needs to chill."

"You're telling me," I muttered.

Some time later, we left the canteen since lunch break was nearly over. A group of three or four guys passed us heading the opposite direction, but we barely noticed. We just kept walking toward class, laughing about something ridiculous Shreya had said.

I stopped mid-step and turned around.

"What's up?" Axar asked. "Why'd you stop?"

I grinned and nodded toward the couple who'd just walked past us, now heading toward the main building. "You know that girl?"

Axar shook his head, but Jaydeep spoke up. "Yeah, I know her. And the guy. That's Shreya. The dude's Arvind - her boyfriend. Both of them are in the science section."

I committed the names to memory, my eyes still tracking her. "Fuck. How did I miss a piece like that in six months here? Look at those tits. And that ass."

I turned to Jaydeep. "Your girlfriend's in the science section too, right? Get me her number."

Axar frowned. "Dude, she's already got a boyfriend."

I laughed, waving him off. "So? I'm just looking to have some fun. Nothing serious."

Jaydeep shifted uncomfortably but stayed quiet. Axar just shook his head, a smirk tugging at his lips.
