Homeward Bound

It had been years since you last remembered your family: the gunshot echoing off the alley walls; the anger squeezing your muscles; the "blood for blood" mentality... When the nanites reengineered you, somehow they took all memories of your family. Eliminated any trace of weakness in your body and soul... But now, all those times-- not just your father's ****, but the good times before then, as well.

And when you finally think back on those times, realizing that you haven't contacted your mother, Andrea or Mary, your sister, you decided to pay them a visit. 'Supergirl can take care of herself for a while,' you thought to yourself. You went to the bridge and asked Mister Terrific about sending you to some coordinates. It took some time, but he was able to program the teleporter to send right in front of your childhood house.

You hoped they would still be there...

When you arrived, you saw that it had been given a new coat of paint: light blue. You walked up the pathway, having mixed feelings of anticipation to see your family again, and concern that you'd be unwelcomed. You knocked on the white screen door, waiting under a minute before someone answered. "Yes?" said a familiar voice.

You got a good look at your older mother: bits of grey in her hair, and she seemed... shorter. When she got a look at you, she smiled pleasantly. "May I help you?"

"Is there anyone named George here?" You had to hold back your laughter because this was too good to be true. And you also worried on the off chance your mother wouldn't remember you.

She immediately frowned and replied, "My son used to live here a long time ago, but he hasn't come back for many years." Her frown became a sad little smile, remembering. "Working for LexCorp."

"He did work for LexCorp, but working conditions were hazardous," you smile. She looked up at you in surprise.

"You? How do you know my son?" At that moment, you brought up something from your past.

"I should've been nicer to my sister about that board game. I was just horsing around, having fun." Your smile disappeared as her expression became more surprised when she recognized that voice. "But when I shot that **** in the knee, I knew only that no one hurts my family and gets away with it." You let it soak in and opened your arms with a hopeful smile. "Mom? I'm home..."
