“When you’re as small as you are, Dana, you need to be used to guys throwing you around.” Rachel told Dana seriously.

“Rachel!” Claire chastised, making Rachel smirk as she set down pizza boxes on the counter.

“You got lucky this time.” Dana pointed at Jace adorably, “You can’t hide behind Aunt Claire forever.”

Jace grinned.

The door opened up behind him, revealing two beautiful blondes, Daphne and Kayla.

“Hey, there!” Kayla smiled brightly at Jace.

“Sierra got a booty call.” Daphne told Danielle exasperatedly as the duo walked into the house, making Danielle laugh.

“I knew I liked that girl.” Rachel chuckled.

Dana spotted David standing quietly on the sidelines, occasionally glancing at Rachel, and she sidled up beside one of her two best friends.

“David!” Dana hissed, and elbowed him in the ribs. He startled, looking towards her finally.

“Dana! Didn’t see you there.” David blinked.

“Uh huh. Too busy checking out Aunt Rachel?” Dana asked knowingly. David flushed.

“No, I wasn’t.” David lied.

“Right.” Dana said dryly, in a tone her big sister Daisy used constantly, “Anyway, I asked how your beach trip went. I barely saw you that whole time.”

“Oh. I had a lot of fun.” David said genuinely, and he smiled, “It was really great.”

“Awesome!” Dana smiled too.

“Anyway, I told the guy to get lost. Imagine trying to hit on someone while they’re just ordering pizza!” Claire was telling the rest of the group.

“I’d hit on you.” Rachel winked at her friend. Claire rolled her eyes at Rachel.

“So would Jace!” Rachel pointed, “If you want a guy’s opinion.”

Claire rounded on Jace, eyebrow raised curiously.

Jace made a big show of looking Claire up and down. “Yeah, I’d hit on you.”

“You came to the diner a few times when Amy and I were working there over the summer.” Jace pointed out to Rachel.

“Oh, he was doing it very tastefully.” Rachel laughed.

“I can’t help but admire a masterpiece.” Jace shrugged, and Rachel awwed.

“I knew I loved you.” she teased.

“You two shouldn’t be allowed to talk.” Claire pointed at Rachel and Jace, making both laugh.

“I do like how much your son turned out like me, Dani.” Rachel said happily.

“Daisy’s even more like you. I’m starting to think you were too involved in my children’s life.” Danielle said wryly.

“Nonsense! They turned out great. I couldn’t get my claws in Dana, though, for some reason.” Rachel looked over her shoulder at the petite blonde talking to David and shook her head wistfully.

“I was doing everything in my power to save at least one of Dani’s kids.” Claire joked.

“It was you!” Rachel gasped dramatically, and the whole group laughed.

Jeremiah came back down the steps then, dressed for work, a button up shirt and some dark pants.

“Bye, everyone.” he waved. Dana gave him a quick hug, and then he was gone.

“Not even a kiss for you?” Rachel raised an eyebrow at Danielle, “If Jenson tried to pull that with me, he’d be on the couch.”

Danielle laughed, but she looked sad.

“Jeremiah’s not a very loving person anymore. He’s gotten a lot colder over the years. To me, anyway. He’s good to the kids, as far as I’ve seen, but I don’t know. Maybe he doesn’t feel much for me anymore.” Danielle shrugged.

“He does look like a good dad. He was playing in the water with Dana for a while at the beach.” Claire said, “Oh, and Amy, too. I guess she’s probably like his third daughter, though, with how often she’s over.”

“Yeah. Third daughter.” Danielle nodded, strangely curt about it. Rachel, Jace, and Claire exchanged glances.

“Right, subject change. Time for lunch, I think.” Rachel said, and she opened the top pizza box.
