His girlfriend, Makoto Niijima

Ren decided to wait until the end of the day to test his abilities. After all, at Leblanc, Boss kinda let him do whatever he wanted. He hardly came up to the attic which served as Ren's room anyways.

When Ren walked into the cafe, he heard the familiar "Ah, you're back," from Sojiro as he went through his contact list.

"Yusuke has an art conference," Ren muttered. "Ryuji's busy, Ann's at a shoot. Kasumi's at a meet..."

He then stopped his finger on Makoto Niijima's name. His girlfriend, and the younger sister to Sae Niijima, the ace prosecutor who helped him out in the past. Despite Makoto's cold exterior, Ren still remembered how deeply she blushed when he recited a poem confessing his love for her in the school talent show.

"She should be okay with anything I do," Ren reasoned. "I normally ask her over all the time, so Boss and her sister won't get suspicious..."

He texted her.

Hey beautiful! Wanna come over to Leblanc. I have something I want to test out and it needs to be private.

_Sure! _Makoto texted back. Just let me drop a few things off for Sis and I'll be right over!

Ren went upstairs and set his bookbag in the usual spot. Morgana hopped out.

"Spending time with Makoto, huh?" he teased.

"Yeah," Ren said. "But listen, could you make yourself scarce?"

God knows he didn't want Morgana to figure out his new powers.

"Say no more, lover boy," Morgana laughed. "Maybe I'll hang out at Haru's place."

And with that, he leapt out the open window to the alleyway below.

Ren laid on the bed and waited for Makoto.

"Hey, Boss," he heard the familiar sound of her voice downstairs a few minutes later.

"Niijima-san?" Sojiro said in a surprised tone. "Ren didn't tell me you were coming over...I'll go get some cigarettes, then. Leave you two in privacy."

"Thank you."

Makoto joined Ren upstairs.

"Hey you," she said, pecking him on the lips. "What did you want to test?"

"Phantom Thief of Minds," Ren said.

As soon as he said this, Makoto shivered slightly, then her eyes gained the hypnotic spirals he requested from the wish.

"Mako-chan?" he asked. "Can you hear me?"

Makoto nodded, here vacant spiral eyes looking ahead.

The wish worked! Ren had his doubts, but honestly, between the metaverse and being a phantom thief, he had seen weirder.

Still, a test to see just how deep Makoto was under was in order.
