Hide

You hold your breath, hoping the troll hasn’t noticed you. He stomps around a bit, but doesn’t get closer to you.

You’re about to sigh in relief, when you hear another troll approach from the opposite direction. You know that their eyesight isn’t great, but their sense of smell is much better. You’re not sure how they can smell anything through their own odour, but they must somehow.

The second troll stops in his place and sniffs long and hard.

“Human”, he mutters.

This manages to catch the attention of the first troll. He lets out a loud roar and charges the second troll. The earth shakes under you as the trolls begin to grapple with each other. You curl up in a ball and hope that neither troll steps on you. You hear them stamp around, trying to scare the other troll off, but to your disappointment, they remain near to you. When they charge at each other again, you decide that moving away from them may be a good idea.

While the trolls are distracted, you slowly crawl away from them. You see your target – a hollow tree where you can hide inside. You move away just in time. The trolls crash into the tree you had been hiding behind and knock it over. It crashes to the ground beside you. Luckily, the trolls don’t look around. You make it to the hollow without trouble and cower inside.

Slowly, the trolls’ fight moves them away from you and deeper into the forest. You hope that they stay preoccupied for a lot longer. As the trolls’ roars die away, you notice that the hollow you’re crouching in is bathed in an eerie light. You look down and see a couple of fragile stems next to your feet, topped with glowing blue flowers. By accident, you’ve found flowering squill plants. Carefully, you dig up the bulbs. There are more than enough for your potion.
