Hesitant and heroic

After grabbing some breakfast, you and Ferra spend some time walking around town. Melora and Cassie head off together, supposedly so Melora can show her around, though you feel like there’s not much to see. Cassie shushes you, grinning and saying something about ‘girl talk’. With that, they each give you a kiss and walk off together.

The town is definitely busier than before, though that’s not surprising considering the number of people you just brought in. Already, work has begun on expansion to house the new people more comfortably. As you and Ferra watch one group working, Victor meets up with you.

“Once again, it’s incredible what you’ve managed to do in such a short time. Already I can feel the change, people are seeing the future as more than simply surviving.”

You nod, still watching the construction. “Sometimes all people need is a little inspiration, or a little push in the right direction. My dad taught me that.”

Victor smiles. “A wise man, your father. Perhaps I can meet him one day.”

You chuckle. “It’s funny, because according to mom, he went from a recluse to a literal god in a little over two years. And all it took was a little inspiration, once again. My mother introduced him to aunt Maya, and as they say, the rest is history.”

The panther man nods, looking into the distance. “I understand. Love and family are powerful.”

He shakes his head, then turns towards you, serious now. “But what I really want to know is what is your plan now? Especially in light of Melora’s prophecy.”

You sigh. “I only see one way forward. I have to meet it head on. Even without Melora’s warning, we can’t let a powerful opponent roam unchecked nearby.”

Ferra nods. “We have the advantage when we are aggressive.”

Victor frowns. “And what happens if you lose?”

You shrug. “We can’t think like that. What are our options? Hide out until they discover us and wipe us out? And the same for our new allies? This is what has to happen.”

Victor looks between you and Ferra for a moment, then nods. “Very well. I just hope you know what you’re doing.”

You shake your head. “So do I. If there was another option, I’d take it. We have a week or so before we go. If someone comes up with a better idea, I’m all ears.”

Victor chuckles. “No pressure, then. And what will you do until then?”

You smile, and put your arm around Ferra’s shoulders.
