What's next?
Help
Me: Hey man, what's up?
Jake: Kinda awkward as I know this is our last shift before next term but can you do me a favour?
Me: It depends on the favour...
Jake: Can you lock up? I know we close up soon anyway, but I just had a call to say our flat has been broken. I need to get back a check my room.
Me: oh shit, man yeah, sure thing
Jake: Cheers. I owe you one
Me: I reckon it's more than one by now
Jake: Probably, just try and not be too much of a homewrecker whilst I'm gone
He was cracking a knowing smile. I could tell he was worried about his flat but wanted to put a brave front to alleviate some of the attention.
Me: I would go before I change my mind
Jake: Alright, alright, trying to get rid of my now I see
Me: Just hurry up and piss off, would you. let me know if you need anything though
Jake: Will do. Genuinely thanks though Alex
With that, he scampered out the door; he waved Annie goodbye on the way out, who gave a confused wave back before looking at me for answers. I just shrugged. It was easier than shouting across the store to explain.
Sometime later, Annie approached the til where I had just finished serving another customer with a mountain of clothes.
Me: I know you said he needed a whole new wardrobe but didn't think you meant it
Annie: Don't be silly. I'm not getting all this.
Me: Shame would have hit my sales target for the day on all that alone
Annie: Well, sorry to disappoint. I do, however, have a favour to ask?
Me: Well, I'm all favours today, it seems, whats do you need?
Annie: It's kinda weird, so you can say no
Me: Oh weird, I'm interested now
Annie: Well, I don't know if some of this stuff will suit Josh. You know if it's the right size and will look good.
Me: hmm yeah, I get that. Where do I come in, though?
Annie: Well, you know how you two look kind of alike and your roughly the same size...
Me: Yeah?
Annie: I was hoping you could sort of try them on and help me see what's best? Don't worry if you can't. It's weird, I know.
Me: No, no, it's okay... urm only issue though, is I can't leave to shop floor as it's just me now working.
Annie looked slightly dejected; not wanting to feel like I was letting her down, I racked my brain for a solution.
Me: Although, if you don't mind hanging around for 10 mins, I will be closing the store anyway, so I guess I could help you out after and then just cash up once you have decided.
Annie: Really? Are you sure?
Me: Yeah, no problem
Annie: Great! You're the best Alex !
Annie gleefully bounces around the counter and gives me a tight hug. I could feel her breast squeezing against my arm. My flashes to all the times my likeness with Josh has had unexpected upsides, I still felt guilty about last time, but I would be lying if I hadn't secretly hoped for Annie to get drunk and make the same mistake again.
Annie: I will see if there is anything else I like then while I wait
Me: I'll come to get you when I am closing
