Heather is confronted about her plan

Heather was about to return to the room she was sharing with Zack when an angry-sounding voice caught her off guard.

“What kind of game are you playing, Heather?”

The buxom brunette nearly jumped out of her skin. Heather gasped for air as she turned to face her accuser. The head cheerleader was shocked to see dissatisfied looks on the faces of her three best female friends.

“FUCKING HELL! You three nearly gave me a heart attack!”

“Again: What kind of game are you playing, Heather?” A miffed Chloe asked her hostess.

“What?”

“Why are you going after Zack like he’s some kind of trophy? Everyone in this cabin, including YOU, knows that he’s trying to ask Victoria out and you’ve done nothing but distract him! WHY?” Ashley steamed.

“Heather, you know I’ve had trouble with boys since Dustin left. Now you go after the first good guy that is interested in me? Do you not want to see me happy?” Victoria asked on the verge of tears.

Heather took a moment to look over each of her friends. She wanted to tell them the entire truth of what she was up to but given that she was sworn to secrecy, she decided to do the next best thing. Now she didn’t exactly lie to her best friends in the world, but she didn’t exactly tell them everything. She told them the truth about certain details of the plot, half-truths about others, and completely ignored the parts that didn’t concern them at all.

“Okay, here’s the deal,” Heather sighed. “Do I think you two would make a great couple? Yes. Absolutely. For the next four months, you and Zack would be great together. But then you’d be off to colleges on opposite sides of the country until Christmastime. Four months of classes, tests, term papers and all. You’d have almost NO time for each other. By the time you see each other again, you’ll be completely different people. You’d be starting over again. Would that be fair to either of you?”

“But—” Victoria started to reply but Heather cut her off.

“No, it wouldn’t. Now if Zack had spoken up sooner, I’d see no problem in letting you two go off to college as a couple. But he didn’t. So, I’m not going to let you two get together for the sole reason of I don’t want to see either of you get hurt,” Heather declared.

“But it’s not your call, Heather,” A furious Ashley rose up.

“I wasn’t finished,” Heather stared Ashley down. “Now, since I know you’re upset about Zack, I’m going to offer you a consolation prize. Don’t give me THAT look, VICKY. At least not until you hear what I have to say.”
