Chapter 14

Does Kyleson appreciate the value of the gift?
He's very pleased.
Dear Diary, (May 23rd evening)
I took the time to change into my most revealing nightgown. It is not at all what a **** might wear for her normal duties, but as a fancy girl ... perhaps. I see now that I left off at a most pivotal moment, I will finish this part and then I do not believe I can put off what must be done any longer.
Anglica was still holding her dress around her hips when Kyleson made his entrance with the collar and chains in his hands and the man made no attempt to avert his gaze.
“That is one fine looking slavegirl, Mistress.” Kyleson was addressing me, but I could see him glance quickly at Priscilla even as he was speaking.
“Well, the little hussy is yours now, Sean.” Priscilla handed the bill of sale to the startled overseer. “Miss Bianca wants to make sure you are happy here at Havenhall, and that you have everything you need.” That directed the Irishman's attention back on me and he gave a half bow as he touched the balding spot above his brow.
“I rightly thank you, Mistress.” Kyleson's grin took me by surprise, I don't remember seeing anything but a dour grimace on his face for the two days I've known him. Angelica on the other hand looked like a sad puppy whose toy has been taken.

“Go on then girl.” Kyleson set the folded ownership papers down on the desk and turned back to the light-skinned **** trembling before him. “Get outa those rags so I can collar you up proper.”
Where I would have fought to keep my dignity, Angelica let out a soft sigh and with a resigned shrug of her pretty shoulders released the dress to let it slide down her thighs. A moment later she stepped out of the thin cotton where it settled at her ankles and waited with her eyes lowered in front of her new owner as naked as the day she was born.
The ease with which my overseer secured the collar around Angelica's neck spoke of years of practice and in spite of trying to look calm and confident, I found my fingers touching my throat just where that ring of iron would lay.
“One more thing, Sean.” Priscilla stopped the man as he prepared to lead his new **** from the room. “Shave that damn nigger's head. I'm sick and tired of seeing her flouting those wild curls.” This almost as much as the news that I was giving her to Kyleson brought a look of pain to Angelica's face, but by now she knew that appealing to me would have no effect.
“Yes, Mistress.” Kyleson nodded easily as he tightened the chain in his hand, “I'll see to that right away.”
“That was very well done, Sweet Bianca.” My cousin rested her hand on my shoulder in an almost motherly fashion. “There's one other task I think we should take care of as soon as possible.”
Now what does Priscilla Manton want?
