Chapter 8 by Left Hand Man Left Hand Man

And just how do you plan to do that?

Guerilla Tactics

During your negotiations with the cheiftess, the warrior had gathered a group of approximately ten goblins, including herself. She looked at you sceptically, obviously wondering what you were discussing with the cheiftess, but didnt't speak when you raised an eyebrow. You look at one of the goblins, a surprisingly large male wearing a loincloth, and armed with a flint hatchet. You draw back in shock when you receive yet another pop-up.

Level 2 Goblin Brute
(Monster, Goblin, Explicit)

Well that was definitely new. A product of the update, perhaps? Irrigardless, it was certainly helpful to know the approximate strength of your allies. You quickly review the others, finding four more brutes, all level two, a goblin scavenger (which seemed to be a very basic scout class) and three goblin hunters, who were armed with slings. The scavengers was level one, and the hunters were a mix of level one and two. The real surprise, however, was the leader.

Level 3 Goblin Barbarian
(Monster, Goblin, Explicit)
Title: Village Champion

You had never seen a monster with a title before. You knew adventurers had them, but you'd never seen a monster with one. And what title was that? "Village Champion" didn't seem like the "Evangelist" or "Captain of the Guard" titles you usually saw on adventurers.

You were broken out of your investigation by the barbarian "Hey! Big Horn! What you doing? Why you staring?" The tone was confrontational, she clearly thought you weren't listening. You debated slapping her down (verbally or otherwise) and immediately decided against it. You decide on an experiment.

"Look closely at him" you pointed at the first brute you examined "tell me what you see". The barbarian looked at you in exasperation but did as you asked. She turned towards the other goblin and inspected him, then immediately jerked back.

"Squiggles! Why squiggles?!" She turned and looked at you "You know squiggly? What squiggly say!?" You're once again surprised by the intelligence of this village. By goblin standards, that kind of intuitive leap would have been considered genius, yet you'd already had two goblins who could make it.

"Not much" you responded honestly "really, the only relevant information is that he's signifigantly weaker than you." She seemed somewhat exasperated by this lack of information.

"Bah. Me know he weaker. He stronger, he lead, I follow. He weaker, I lead, he follow" she said briefly. She looked directly at you. "You stronger, so I follow. Now" She said abruptly, changing tone, "you need anything? Weapon?"

You give it some thought. You've never had a weapon before, so you're unsure if it'd be an advantage or not, but you noded anyway "A weapon would be useful" you said. Worst case scenario, you'll leave it in your inventory. "Perhaps an axe." If nothing else, it should be useful in resource gathering later. The barbarian gestured and a minute later a goblin came running, carrying a pair of flint hachets. When you picked them up they resized to fit your hand, just like the hammer. You looked them over, receiving the pop-up you half expected.

Simple Flint Hachet
Attack +1 (2)

Better than nothing. They looked solid, at least, with a simple leather wrap for a grip. You hefted them appreciatively. (They look like this) "this will be just fine. Thank you." You put them away in your inventory, which reminded you of something.

"Can any of you make use of this?" You asked, pulling the creeping miss out of your inventory. The cheiftess came over and studied the moss for a moment, before turning and shouting "Maker! Where you? Big Horn have freeze-moss!" Startling you. A hunched, ugly male goblin soon came out of the crowd. He wasn't as tall say the others, and he was quite thin, but his firey red hair and gotee, as well as the leather shash and smock, indicated that he was likely one if the higher level goblins in the village. (He looks a bit like this) A quick perception trigger confirmed this

Level 3 Goblin Alchemist
(Monster, Goblin, Explicit)
Title: Novice Alchemist

"What? Me busy! Me makeing potion. Me burn potion, it your fault!" He said, in a voice even more raspy and cracked than normal goblins. The barbarian was having none of it, and simply shoved the alchemist towards you. You mutely hold out the Creeping Moss to the alchemist, who eagerly tries to grab it. What follows is another round of bargaining, this time with the alchemist. Eventually, you traded the creeping moss for a single health potion, and the location of the resource nods of something called an "Explosive Concoction". You examined it carefully:

Lesser Explosive Concoction (uncommon)
A potion that produces an explosion when the bottle is broken. Seeing as this instance is only a lesser version, the explosion is not very powerful, but it is still quite dangerous at close range

This looked like something that would be useful. It could be used to turn the tide at a vital moment... Or cover an escape. You placed it in the slot that used to hold the creeping moss, noticing that you only have one slot left. Then you looked around at your assembled troops, realizing that you had spent too long on bargaining. They were all looking expectantly at you, waiting, you thought, for a plan.

You turned to the hunters and asked "is there a trail nearby? Something used by adventurers? Preferably in a wodded area with lots of hiding places" The goblin looked startled but nodded. "Good. Draw it out." The goblin looked bemused, but complied. (This is a map of the site).

You grunted happily, as the barbarian broke in "you plan ambush!" She said delightedly. You grined at her but didn't reply. You looked over the map once more, then you began to plan.

Does it work?
