Chapter 9

Left Hand Man
Does it work?
The Ambush
You lay on your stomach, head hidden under a bush, carefully surveying the path. It's a near perfect ambush spot, and you've improved it with a few well concealed boulders on either side of the ravine. Small boulders, but still. They were concealed with freshly up rooted shrubbery, as were your goblins. With luck the adventurers, lazy as most of them were, wouldn't look up, but you had still taken the precaution.
The scavenger had returned a few moments ago with news that a small party of adventurers was comming. From what you could glean from the scavenger's report there were four of them, somewhere between level three and level four. This had you slightly worried. Generally speaking, as you knew from bitter experience, an adventurer could reliably defeat a monster of the same level, so you were likely the only one in your group who could take them one-on-one, and there were four of them. The element of surprise should help but...
You shook yourself out of your ruminations as you heard voices approaching. No use second guessing now, You thought to yourself. The plan is good. We will either be successful, or we won't. Thus reassured, you focused your full attention on the adventurers.
"God, I don't get how the bloody NPCs don't have the town rebuilt yet. " Said one of them, a woman from the sound of it.
"I heard it was an update glitch, and there's a problem with the build system. That could be it, Effra." Replied another, this one male. He sounded clamer than the woman, who was presumably Effra.
"D ya think they'll have it fixed by the time we get back?" This one seemed a bit nervous. He, for the voice was male, gave the impression of a pale, weedy blonde somehow, twisting his hands together. The image amused you for some reason
"Eh, worst case scenario, it isn't, and we log off until the devs have it fixed. Not the end of the world" said the calm one. He seemed to be in charge, which immediately marked him as a prime target. You waited a few minutes, until they were in view.
Like the scavenger reported, there were four of them, loosely grouped together. They looked to be a "party" which meant that they were used to working together. That... Could be a problem. By the looks of it, pretty standard. there was one warrior, out in front in a chainmail jerkin with a kite shield on his back, the "tank". That was the term the adventurers used anyway, though you had no idea why. You carefully triggered your perception, trying to gain a better idea of what you were up against.
Samson Lightsblade
Level 3 Paladin of Enyaw
Human, Adventurer, Active, Explicit
Time since creation: 124 hours
Time played: 22 hours
Oh great, a palidin. You had had plenty of miserable experience with the sanctimonious pricks and their "Holy missions" which seemed to revolve around slaughtering everything in sight. Though the Enyaw bunch was less bad, even if all that meant was that most of them only slaughtered everything after careful consideration. Just behind him was a small, androgynous figure in hooded leather armor. They moved cautiously, obviously alert. That could also be a problem, and their status only confirmed that.
Raven Morden
Level 4 Daggerdancer
Halfling, Adventurer, Active, Explicit.
Time since creation: 128 hours
Time played: 30 hours
You had never seen the Daggerdancer class before, so you presumed it was part of the update. From observation, you guessed that it was a speed based damage dealing class, but that was it.
Behind them, side by side in spite of the narrow pass, was a short woman dressed in an absolutely absurd confection of an outfit. That amount of ruffels and bright colors just could not be practical. You honestly couldn't tell what she was, except some breed of mage or support. She filled it out astoundingly well though, with absolutely massive breasts and hips for days. You shook yourself a bit to get back on track. Standing next to woman, who was presumably Effra, was a slim, weedy, nervous looking blonde man. In contrast to the confusing garments of his companion, this one was clearly a healer/priest of some kind (there often being little functional difference) in plain white robes and with a simple staff toped with a yellow Stone of some kind. He looked weaker than the others, and perception checks confirmed this, as well as revealing just what the woman was.
Effra Bunnen
Level 3 Bard
Dwarf, Adventurer, Active, Explicit
Time since creation: 84 hours
Time played: 19 hoursWesley Bunnen
Level 2 Acylote of Enyaw
Human, Adventurer, Active, Explicit
Time since creation: 76 hours
Time played: 18 hours
So, plan. When you'd heard there were four of them, you'd given some simple orders to the goblins. The goblins hunters and the scavenger would each push a boulder onto the adventurers, then provide support while you took one of them, the barbarian and a Brute took another, and the remaining three brutes took the third. You were hoping to kill or pin one with a boulder or the Explosive Concoction, but if you couldn't then you had ordered the barbarian to take one and two brutes to take each of the others. You hoped it wouldn't come to that, but it was as good a plan as you were going to get.
You waited until they were directly under you, then signaled to the goblins across the ravine to reveal themselves. As they rose out of cover and rolled the boulders down the gorge, you rose to a crouch and lept down on the adventures, axes raised high, and activated iron wool. The battle was on!
Well?!
