Grace Lee, intern

Grace was bored. She'd thought taking this summer internship would be a great way to pad her resume, earn some money, but most importantly develop real skills she could use later in her career. So far the only skill she had learned was how to make photocopies. She wasn't even sure why they had hired her, they didn't seem to have any actual work for her to do. Her current assignment was to sit at her desk and 'immerse herself in the culture'. Whatever that meant. So while she did have their corporate handbook open on her computer, what she was actually doing was endlessly scrolling on her phone.

Which is how she noticed immediately when a notification popped up that a download had been completed. "The gatcha game of changes...I didn't download this." She slide her finger across the screen to dismiss the notification, but instead the game opened up. There was no description of the game or any explanation. Just the words, 'Pick a card' and three images.

She tried to exit the app but nothing she did worked. She even tried shutting off her phone but it wouldn't turn off. She couldn't just wait for the battery to die, she needed her phone. She decided to just pick one and get it over with.
