What does Megan do?
Goes to King Charles
"I have no one else to turn to!" Megan wailed at the new King, "All my Hollywood friends have abandoned me. I have no other income to pay off the newspapers!"
Charles looked at the grovelling duchess, smirking at the thought that it wasn't so long ago that she had been outing all the family secrets for Netflix specials. Now she was practically begging on the floor of his palace for help. It gave him an idea.
"I will pay your debts for you."
Megan's face lit up, astonished, "You will?" she cried,
"On one condition, however," the King continued. Megan just nodded,
"Anything! Anything!"
"You will remain here in the palace as our personal slave until the debt has been paid."
Megan was stunned. This was her former father-in-law! He could not be serious, could he?
"How...how long would that be?" she stammered tremulously. King Charles smiled humourlessly,
"Well let's see, you need to pay back £110 million to the newspapers, let's say we pay back £3 million a year, you'll be our slave for about...36 years."
36 years?! Screw that! She'd be an old woman by the time she got out, Megan thought,
"Of course, if you don't accept, you can try to pay back the newspapers without our help," Charles laughed, "but just remember you're not in the United States anymore."
"What do you mean?" Megan raised an eyebrow,
"In the United Kingdom, if you can't pay your debts, you will be imprisoned until you pay off your debt through manual labour."
"WHAT?"
"I'm afraid so, Megan. You typically pay back £3 million a year, so you would also be in prison for 36 years. So Megan, your options are, 36 years of slavery in the palace, or 36 years of manual labour in prison."
Megan's mind whirled in turmoil. These were her options?! Looking up at the King with misery, it was obvious she had no other choice.
"I accept your condition. I'll be your slave."
