“No,” you answer Greg, your eyes meeting in a very intimate manner, “but I think that is the best idea. I should have known better than to agree with your roommate here.”

Greg cursed rather harshly, causing you to wince. “I’m really sorry, Hannah,” Greg said with a sigh. I promise that I would not have invited you over here if I knew he was going to be such an asshole.”

You lean in and give him a soft peck on his lips. “It’s not your fault. I’m sure you were hoping for more, but I’m not sure that I’m quite ready for it anyways, so this is probably for the best.”

You get and wait for him to follow. It takes him longer than you would have thought before he finally gets up. He fixes his face from whatever his expression was and grabs your hand as you head toward the door to collect both of your things and then head out to his car.

The drive back to your place takes place in silence. You want to speak up and say something, but you don’t want to sour the mood. You can tell that you’ve disappointed him and that really saddens you.

You make no move to get out when you two arrive at your place. You’re not ready to leave him and you have no real desire to face your roommate. “When can I see you again?”

He turns toward you, seemingly having forgotten that you were even there. “It’ll probably be next weekend. We can try for a date again, but unless your roommate will be gone, it’ll be hard to find much of any alone time.”

You since the finality in his statement. You can’t tell if he’s madder at you than he’s willing to admit or if he’s just made at the whole situation. Either way, it feels as if the real question between you is if you’re going to end things because you’ll never have time alone together or if you’ll just have to find some other way.

Your eyes meet and you can feel the connection and tension that is rising between you two. A choice has to be made and you can see that you are the one who is going to have to make it.
