Chapter 13

What should you do?
Go and find Elizabeth
You informed the priestess you had met earlier about this. The priestess, named Abigail, thanked you for the information and was about to ask one of the other clerics to check on Elizabeth. However, it was clear that all of them were busy.
"I-I guess I'll have to go myself," Abigail then said.
"I can go check on her," you offered.
Abigail looked at you and then smiled, relieved. She seemed pleased to have an extra hand. It was obvious that she was scared to go herself.
"Thank you very much," she said with a grateful look in her eyes, "please do be careful. I'll take care of the children"
You fetched Blue, already a star among the children, and excused yourself to the little boys and girls. Abigail then took over and entertained the children while you hurriedly made your way out of the church, towards miss Liz's shop. On your way, you saw that the streets had been deserted, the citizens already hiding inside their homes. Your worry grew with each steps you took.
"Calm down, Alexis," you heard Blue in your head after they initiated a telepathy link, "Elizabeth is okay"
"Yeah? How do you-"
You were about to shout back reply in frustration, but then you remembered that Blue's split part was supposed to be with miss Liz. You didn't saw it when you met her earlier, so maybe it stayed at the shop?
"Where's miss Liz?" you decided to ask then.
"In her shop," Blue replied.
Nodding, you hastened your pace. When you nearly reached miss Liz's shop, you saw that the door was wide open. That was quite concerning. You ran into the store and called out for Elizabeth.
"Miss Liz, are you here?" you shouted from the entrance.
"I'm at the back!"
You breathed a sigh of relief. At least you knew that she was okay. You rushed towards the voice, finding her rummaging through a set of shelves.
"Alexis? Why are you here?" she asked as you walked closer to her.
"I should be the one asking that! You said you were going to go to the church after you grab more potions," you replied.
"Ah, yes. It turned out I had stocked less healing potion than I previously thought, so I'm brewing more right now"
Elizabeth pointed towards a corner of the back room, where you could see a large cauldron with something simmering inside. The liquid was a light blue color and you assumed it was a big batch of healing potion, as she said.
"The least you can do was close the front door!" you said as you returned back to the front door, slamming it close before locking it. You then returned to the back room.
"Sorry and thanks, dear. Anyway, is everything okay at the church?" Elizabeth then asked you as she kept taking stuff from the shelves, ingredients for the potion, you assumed.
"The wounded started piling up, and the clerics are out of healing potion"
"Already? I should hurry then. Unfortunately, you just can't shorten the brewing time too much or the potion would not be effective"
Elizabeth quickly took the last of the items she needed from the shelves and began throwing them into the cauldron. After that, she stirred the pot, adding more ingredients, and muttering incantations under her breath.
"Do you need any help?"
"It's fine, you can leave the rest to me. Please, go back to the church and tell them that I'll deliver the potion as soon as possible"
"I can't do that," you replied, "I can't leave you alone here, that's too dangerous"
Elizabeth sighed, "okay, if you insist, please watch the door. I'll inform you once the potion is finished"
You nodded and then headed back to the front door. You stood in front of it, keeping an eye out for any suspicious movement outside. Thankfully, there didn't seem to be any monsters that had breached into the commercial district, but that didn't mean you could let your guard down. You made sure that Blue was ready to act at a moment's notice.
After a while, Elizabeth finally completed her brewing and started bottling up the potion. You helped packing the finished bottles and got ready to move. You felt like you forgot something, but you couldn't recall what it was. Not wanting to waste more time the two of you immediately head towards the church.
