What's next?
Give Gali the Aladdin
You don't leave.
"I'm serious," you say. "I for real want to give you this role. You should be Aladdin."
Gali stares at you, eyes narrowing. The weary look on her face makes it clear she doesn't believe a word of it. She opens her mouth to tell you to fuck off again when Caoimhe walks up, clipboard in hand.
"Everything okay over here?" she asks, glancing between the two of you.
"Yeah," you say before Gali can answer. "I was just telling her she should take Aladdin. She's way more experienced than me. It'd be better for the show."
Caoimhe actually pauses. She looks at Gali, then at you, then back at Gali again, thinking it over seriously.
"Yeah... she is really good," Caoimhe admits after a moment. "It'd be much easier for her to be Aladdin instead of you."
"Wait, really?" Gali asks, genuine shock cutting through her earlier annoyance.
Caoimhe nods, then immediately dumps the reality of the situation on her. "But who will play Jasmine? We're way too short on actors as it is."
Then the two of them start throwing ideas back and forth. Katie's already cast as Abu. Debbie's locked in as the Genie. Barb's set on Jafar. None of the girls painting sets or working lighting seem interested, and half of them already said they only signed up for crew work.
You raise your hand.
"Hey, if it's that hard, I'll do it."
Both of them freeze and look at you at the exact same time.
"Wait, really?" they say in unison.
"You don't mind playing a girl?" Gali asks.
"You will have to actually wear Jasmine's clothes, and they're pretty... slutty."
"I don't mind," you shrug. "Guys played girls in drag for centuries, right? Theater tradition and all that."
Caoimhe and Gali exchange a long look. Then Caoimhe slowly starts nodding.
"Okay... okay, that actually solves everything. Gali's Aladdin. Jack's Jasmine. We keep the rest of the cast the same."
Gali still looks a little stunned, but the hostility has completely drained out of her face. She even manages a small, almost friendly smile in your direction.
"Thanks," she says, quieter than before. "Seriously."
"No problem."
With the casting finally settled, Caoimhe starts scribbling notes on her clipboard and Gali heads off to tell the others. You hang around just long enough to make sure no one needs anything else from you, then slip out of the theater and head for class.
