Chapter 59 by Chip_Arranger Chip_Arranger

What happens next?

Getting things done

You and Amy were in the middle of one of your favorite shows. Whilst you were snuggling on the couch, your phone vibrated with the telltale sign of a text message. You instinctively thought it was Heidi, simply because that's who texted you last time you and Amy were in this sort of position, but when your phone screen lit up, Isabella's name popped up.

Oh yeah...that's right. You had sent her a message this morning wondering if anything had come of the situation with her and university administration. It had been a long and draining morning, in more than one way.

Isabella: Surprisingly, they only gave me a written warning. My roommate has to go through some **** education program or something, I think she got the harsher end of the stick because she's technically in possession of it all. I don't understand all the legal mumbo-jumbo that they were talking about, but whatever gets me off the hook works.

"Oh, is this all about the party getting busted?" Amy said from beside you.

"Yeah, I was a little curious what had happened with all that, since I haven't talked to her for a little bit," you explained.

"Well, I'm glad that she's not in trouble," Amy said, agreeing with your thoughts. "Now I can actually fire back at her during study sessions."

"Fire back at her?" you asked, confused.

"Y'know, at the most recent ones, she's been getting awfully chummy with you," she clarified. "Now I can actually get back at her, make sure she doesn't get TOO chummy with you if she knows you're mine."

"Oh, I definitely noticed that too," you agreed. "Why do you think I spent all that time with you at the party?"

"I figured it was just because you hadn't gone to a party," Amy nonchalantly answered. "I mean, that was one of the reasons I didn't mingle, but as you know, I was very captivated by you that night."

You thought back to that night, and after the party on the lakeshore. "I think captivated might be taking it a little lightly," you teased.

Amy playfully shoved you, and then resumed her focus on the TV. You then decided to respond to Isabella's message.

Cody: That's surprising, but I'm glad that you're doing well.

Isabella: That being said, I think that may be the last of the parties, which I know you're devastated about. Maybe we could go somewhere else on Friday nights if you're feeling up to it.

Cody: I mean, it depends on whether or not the football game kicks my ass that day, but I'd love to.

Isabella: Well, I'll see you tomorrow. Have safe travels back.

Cody: You too.

That wasn't exactly the most thrilling conversation with Isabella, but the fact that you took the time to check in with her clearly meant something to her.

"I'm back!" Evelyn said cheerfully as she opened the door with about as much decorum as you'd come to expect from her coming back home. That reminded you, you should probably tell Evelyn that Amy knows, or is at least somewhat aware, of what she's doing. You weren't sure how to reveal that Amy knew, because you'd have to omit the details of the app, but you could probably just say that Amy suspected something was up. "Oh, you shitheads! Did you keep watching without me?"

"Sure did, Evelyn," Amy said with pride, knowing she'd gotten the upper hand. "Just because we're not slaving away at school doesn't mean that we have to wait for Your Royal Highness to come back home and grant us the ability to watch this show."

Thankfully, Evelyn was able to see the humor in the situation, or at the very least was able to subdue her anger. You think that it had to do with her more relaxed temperament after letting everything out. She kicked her shoes off, and plunked herself on the other side of you, saying "Fine, but I will be watching these episodes with you and fill myself in later."

With Evelyn's presence, Amy clung onto you a little tighter, likely worried that Evelyn would try to make a move on you. You, in turn, held her a little tighter with the arm you had draped across her shoulders.

"Relax, I'm not going to do anything," Evelyn quipped, noticing you and Amy's apparently not-so-subtle movements. "At least, I'm not going to do anything with Amy here."

You gave her a face that said something like "Why on Earth would you say something like that?". She either didn't notice it or didn't care. Amy was a lot more blatant, shooting her a **** glare.

"Geez, okay, I'll read the room next time," Evelyn amended, diffusing the situation.

"Evelyn, can I speak to you for a moment?" you called out as she was heading back to her room after supper.

"Sure, come on in," she invited, heading into her room.

"This seems like a bad idea," you thought, but didn't think much of it because you were confident you would be able to resist her advances like you had in the past.

Evelyn was already sitting down on her bed when you came in. She patted the spot next to her, inviting you to sit there. You didn't, trying your best to make this short and brief.

"Look, Amy knows," you started. You were about to continue your thought when Evelyn interrupted.

"You didn't tell her, did you? God, she's gonna kill me. No wonder she looked at me like that when I made that joke..." Evelyn's voice trailed off as her face shifted between panic and embarrassment.

"Wait, wait, wait," you said. "She doesn't know everything. Strictly speaking, she's not entirely certain, she just has a hunch. She said something about how she noticed you were acting unnaturally close to me, more than just if I had talked with you." There, that should avoid everything about the app.

"So...she doesn't know about the kiss?" Evelyn asked, her voice turning hopeful.

"No, she doesn't," you affirmed. "She's just suspicious of you right now, so I'd tone it down a few notches if I were you."

"Well, thanks for telling me," she said after a second of silence. "And thanks for not telling Amy".

"Don't worry, your secret is safe with me," you assented.

"I'll tone it down," Evelyn confirmed. "You're lucky you're only here for another night, I don't know if I'd be able to handle it if you were here for longer."

You didn't know what to make of that, so you just said, "Thanks for understanding" and left the room.

You made your way down the hallway and into the living room. It was only Amy there, no sign of the Pearsons. You weren't sure where they had retreated to after supper.

"Hey, love," she said as she saw you come into the living room. "I was thinking of leaving right after breakfast, then we can stop somewhere on the way for lunch if wanted, or we could just eat a late lunch at the dining hall. Sound good to you?"

"Sounds perfect to me," you responded. "Guess I should probably go pack up my stuff then."

"Yeah, we didn't exactly follow my mom's advice to do that earlier today," Amy agreed. "We were too busy doing...other things."

You gave her a small kiss on her forehead (she really was the perfect height where you could just do that while standing up), and then walked off into your room to pack.

Time to head back?
