Getting Coffee with Emma

Jessica breathed in the warm spring air of the city and tried to relax. Sure, last night hadn’t gone as well as she had liked, but it was a bright new day full of opportunity. Her phone buzzed with a message from her best friend Emma.

“Hey bitch! Come meet at Dozens. I want to hear all about what you and John did last night!”

Jessica smiled and shook her head. Emma always acted like the hard partying sorority girl she was at heart.

“OMW”

Dozens was a popular coffee shop downtown. She and John went there all the time. When Jessica arrived, Emma was already sitting at a table outside. Emma was a tall girl with natural dark red hair. Her body was long and lithe. She was dressed far more provocative than Jessica with a white miniskirt that barely covered her ass, and red tank top. The two girl hugged each other and sat down. Emma handed her a cup of the chai tea she liked.

“Thanks.” Jessica said.

“Sooo….how was last night!” Emma always was straight to the point.

Jessica sipped her tea. “Well...not great.”

“What? Did his little soldier not come out to play?” Emma teased.

Jessica blushed. “Stop it Emma. This is a series. John came home really late. And..and I think he might have had dinner with another woman.” Jessica gave Emma the full run down on John’s jacket.

“That bastard! He’s got you making him dinner at home, and he’s off with some slut.”

“Do you really think he was?” asked Jessica.

Emma shrugged. “I don't know. I don’t think John is the type. And that isn’t proof of anything.”

They sat in silence for a few moments before Emma snapped Jessica out of her thoughts.

“I know what will cheer you up.” She said with a playful smile. “Let's play the number game.”

Jessica rolled her eyes. “Emma! I can’t play that anymore. I'm engaged.” The number game was something she and Emma had come up with back in high school. They would pick someone from a crowd and challenge the other to get their number.

Emma waved away her objections. “I know. I know. That's why it’s even more fun. No strings attached. It’s not like you’re gonna actually do anything. It’s just a way to get your confidence back.”

“Well...who did you have in mind? Jessica asked cautiously.

Emma nodded towards the cute barista behind the bar. “Him.”

“Mark!” Jessica was shocked. “But he and John know each other. What if he finds out?”

Emma gave her a wicked grin. “That just makes it more fun.”
