Chapter 13 by Yelawolf Yelawolf

Do you help free her or let her rot?

Free her

Finally, you nod. “Fine. We’ll help you. But if you betray us, you won’t live to regret it.”

Her grin returns, triumphant. “That’s more like it! Now, get me outta this cage, and I’ll show you the way.”

Sazza sticks out her tongue at the guards as she steps out of the cage, her movements quick and furtive. “Alright, let’s move. And keep it quiet—unless you wanna explain to the whole Grove why you’re lettin’ a goblin walk free.”

The gates of the Grove close behind you, the tiefling guards watching with wary eyes as you and your companions depart. Sazza scurries ahead, her movements quick and furtive, but she keeps glancing back at you with a sly grin.

“So,” she says, her voice dripping with mock sweetness, “what’s a strappin’ hero like you doin’ hangin’ around with the likes of me? You got a thing for goblins, or are you just ****?”

You raise an eyebrow, your tone dry. “**** enough to listen to you. Don’t push your luck.”

She laughs, a sharp, cackling sound. “Oh, I like you. You’ve got spine. Most humans would’ve left me to rot in that cage. But not you. You’ve got… what’s the word? *Potential.*”

Shadowheart rolls her eyes, her voice cold. “Ignore her. She’s just trying to get under your skin.”

Sazza sticks out her tongue at Shadowheart. “Jealous, are we? Don’t worry, sweetheart. There’s plenty of him to go around.”

Lae’zel snorts, her hand resting on her sword. “If the goblin does not cease her prattling, I will silence her myself.”

Sazza smirks, her yellow eyes gleaming. “Oh, I’d like to see you try, greenie. Bet you’re all bark and no bite.”

Karlach steps forward, her fiery eyes narrowing. “Careful, gobbo. You’re startin’ to annoy me.”

Sazza holds up her hands in mock surrender. “Alright, alright. No need to get your knickers in a twist. I’ll behave… for now.” she falls into step beside you, her grin returning. “So, hero. What’s your story? You always run around savin’ damsels in distress, or am I special?”

You chuckle, shaking your head. “You’re not a damsel, and you’re definitely not in distress.”

She leans closer, her voice dropping to a whisper. “Oh, I could be. If you play your cards right.”

You stop walking, turning to face her. “Sazza, if you’ve got something to say, say it. Otherwise, save your breath for the road.”

Her grin falters for a moment, replaced by something almost genuine. “Fine, fine. But don’t say I didn’t warn you. You’re gonna need a sense of humor where we’re goin’.”

As the group continues on, Sazza’s flirting becomes more sporadic but no less pointed. She makes a show of stumbling so she can grab your arm, her grip surprisingly strong.

“Whoops! Almost fell there. Good thing you’re so sturdy, eh?”

Karlach groans, her voice loud enough for everyone to hear. “If she doesn’t stop, I’m tossin’ her in the nearest river.”

Sazza sticks out her tongue again. “You’re just mad ‘cause you’re not gettin’ any attention.”

Shadowheart sighs, pinching the bridge of her nose. “This is going to be a long journey.”

Lae’zel’s hand twitches toward her sword. “It does not have to be.”

You shake your head. “Let’s just focus on the mission. Sazza, lead the way.”

She grins, her yellow eyes gleaming with mischief. “Aye aye, captain. But don’t say I didn’t warn you when things get… interesting.”

As the group moves deeper into the wilderness, Sazza’s antics continue, her hateful flirting a constant reminder of the chaos she brings. But beneath her sharp tongue and sly grin, there’s a flicker of something else—something that suggests she might just be worth the trouble.
