While Emma tried to retain their original personalities, she did have a few key points to focus on in their brainwashing.
Point one: Complete loyalty, love and devotion to Emma Frost.
Point two: An increase of sexual desires with a decrease of sexual inhibitions. Especially with Hellfire club members.
Point three: The willingness to advance the goals of Emma Frost and the Hellfire club, without regarding to morals or ethics if needed.
Point four: To accept they have been mentally alter and be happy about it. They would also resist any attempt to return them to normal. As well as a willingness to enhance the mind control under Emma's instruction.
There were a few more commands in there as well. To combine their original personalities with what she needed with her club. Different aspects of each one of them required a different amount of effort. Once she understood their desires, hopes, dreams, fears and other motivation it moved much easier.
