What happens in the barrier?
Fear Leads To Anger
Another swipe from the Blade of the Order brought down three more zombies. The two that were about to attack John from behind were felled by a well-placed boulder from Mikuru. A quick nod from John showed his appreciation before he went back to his hacking and slashing of the zombies. The heart of the city block was crawling with zombies, making it hard for the three to move through. The entire city was a zombie apocalypse, with zombies on every street and in each building. At least, that’s what Miho said when she used her magic to get a quick bird’s eye view of the barrier. Mikuru wasn’t as sure, pointing out that Miho tends to over-exaggerate things quite often. Miho defended herself, saying that Mikuru always underplayed things. The two went on like that for 5 whole minutes. 5 minutes of arguing that alerted every zombie in the block, which slowly shambled over to their location.
Thank Asshole Goddess these zombies take after Romano’s zombies and not those shits from 27 Days Later, thought John as he charged another group of zombies, while the twins rushed to catch up to him. They were steadily carving a path through the zombies, with each fight drawing the attention of nearby zombies, who would wander over and be cut down like their kin.
“Mikiiiiiiiiii, there are sooooooooooo manyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!” complained the wind powered twin. Her powerful gusts of wind were used to keep the zombies corralled into a killzone that John and Mikuru had set up. The fighting skills of the three, however, were shown to be quite different. Miho and Mikuru worked in tandem with each other, like a beautiful ballet of wind and rock, controlling the flow of the battle. Then there was John. John was like a hammer. A hammer you were using to hammer in a nail except you were using the peen instead of the head. Many times Mikuru had to abort an attack at the last second in order to dodge John’s sword, which would have easily caught her and left her with a large gash. Miho’s wind based attacks were also used to redirect John’s momentum when he was blindly swinging, allowing him to actually hit the targets he would have otherwise missed. As the fight went on, however, their teamwork vastly approved.
“Miho, send a group now!” commanded John.
“Of course!” replied the playful twin, as she sent a gust of wind that came from below the zombies, lifting the zombies up and thrusting them forward. Some of the female zombies had skirts were blown up and caused a giggle from Miho, that clearly being the entire purpose.
“Miho, focus! We can easily get overwhelmed!”
“But these zombies are eeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssssssyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!” whined Miho, who had clearly lost interest in fighting the zombies within the first 5 minutes. John, however, kept moving forward and slashing them down. The zombie massacre that was unfolding, while bad for granting John a level, with each zombie only providing 1 EXP did, however, allow for an excellent form of anger release for John. Each slash, cut, thrust, and whirlwind attack, allowed some of that anger to be released from John, but his anger was high, and the zombies were losing their main use.
“We need to keep pushing forward!” declared John as the three finished off the remaining zombies in this area. The twins were not as enthused by that news.
“John, we need to rest,” informed Mikuru, as she and Miho were resting on each other. John could see that the two were in need of rest but he had to kill more zombies. His anger needed sating, and these two girls weren’t going to hold him back from getting it.
“FINE! You two can rest here; I’m moving on ahead,” he spouted as he marched forward.
“What, no! You could be swarmed if you go by yourself,” Mikuru told him with a hint of concern in her voice, but her fatigue prevented her from physically stopping him. John just waved her off as he marched on to the next street and out of their view.
“Miki, what are we gonna do? I wanna help but I’m too tiiiiiiiiiiiiiireeeeeeeeeeeed!"”squealed Miho as she nuzzled into her sister’s shoulders. Mikuru stroked her sister’s hair as she nodded in agreement.
“I know, Miho, but we are no use to him currently. We need to rest and regain our energy. Once we have done that, we can rejoin John on the battlefield. He is strong; he’ll be able to hold his own until we get there,” she said as she cuddled her sister.
“Aaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrzzzzzzzzzgggggggggggghhhhhhhhhh!” was all the zombies could say as they surrounded John. Think John, you can do this! John thought as a large group of zombies closed around him. The group John had first encountered were no more than 6. He had charged the group and sliced through half of them and was already working on the other 3 when three groups of 5 zombies came from the connecting back alleys. So caught up in his killing of the three zombies, John did not realize 15 more zombies had appeared until they had surrounded him. Their slow shambling walk towards him at least gave John time to think; sadly, the only thing he could think of was to just charge them and hack and slash them all. So that is exactly what he did.
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!” John let loose a battlecry as he flung himself at the zombies, swinging his sword wildly. The zombies, feeling no pain, did not care as John slashed off their limbs and instead kept clawing and biting him. The damage they did was minimal, but they were stacking up. John struggled to break the grip of the zombies as they piled on him, forcing him to the ground.
Shit! No! I won’t die now! I won’t! I REFUSE! thought John as he summoned all his strength which, thanks to his strength perk, allowed him to toss off all the zombies, flinging them in different directions, most of them having their skulls destroyed. John quickly grabbed his sword and smashed the heads of the rest of the zombies before they could recover. John panted heavily at the energy he had expended on that feat; his constant staying in battle had drained him of his stamina and his HP was low thanks to the zombie bites and scratches. John was able to turn and leave to go meet up with the twins when he heard a booming voice speak throughout the city.
“Well, well, well. I must admit, you did far better than I thought you would. Your incredible strength was not something I accounted for. My zombies did swarm you rather well and would have easily had you beaten, so at least they seem to be functioning as intended. Well, my unexpected guiana pig, let’s see you test out my other experiments. It is only fitting since you are in my zombie testing barrier. Good luck and give me loads of precious data!” said the clearly masculine voice. He seemed to be quite excited that John had broken into his testing barrier and planned to make the most out of it, no matter the cost to John.
“This is bad, really bad. GIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRLS!” yelled John as he raced back to the last spot they were all together.

Does John find the twins in time?
