Family History

Tom walked inside the house and found a large parcel on the kitchen counter. He grabbed a knife and opened the present. It was a new digital camera, a bunch of memory cards, and a couple of lenses.

Tom is part of the photography club at school and has had to borrow the school equipment for assignments. Tom felt touch by how thoughtful his Grandpa’s gift was. He doesn’t see a lot of his Grandpa as he is always traveling.

Tom got his phone out and his Grandpa answered on the first ring, as if he was expecting the call.

“Happy birthday me wee laddie”

“Thanks Grandpa, and thanks for the camera it is awesome”

“Well, your in your last year of high school and it is important to capture these moments that you will have. So anything special happen for your birthday”

The way he said it left Tom feeling that there is a hidden undercurrent, He hesitated for a second before “uh, yeah, played poker with some friends. Bit weird how lucky I was tonight.

Like I could bet anything and win, no matter how crazy”

“Did you feel a buzz laddie as you bet?”

“Uh yeah I did.”

“Well congratulations Laddie, you have been chosen. Not every generation has someone chosen Laddie, you really are blessed.

I will give you a quick history lesson as I doubt your mum knows much.

The tale goes that an ancestor of ours hundreds of years ago in the old country saved a young Fae royalty. To Thank the ancestor, the Fae decided to bless a random member of our family.

There is no pattern to who, or when they will bless us. Not even what the blessing will be.

We have had an ancestor blessed to become a great warrior, We have had a matriarch who was blessed to heal. There is tale of someone being blessed with foresight, and someone blessed in trickery.

All the gifts are different, but one thing that has held true. That is don’t be afraid to use the gift.

The Fae gift is a partnership, as you use it, they feed off the energy you generate.”

“wow, do you have a gift and are your sure it is safe?”

“Yeah, I have a gift

it is that when I travel, I find things. They are always valuable, not necessarily monetarily, like last week I found an old doll in an op shop. Then I bumped into a nice lady at a coffee shop and she brought up that she had a similar doll when she was a kid. Let just say she was grateful when I let her have the doll.

That is the thing about Fae. Their morals are not our morals.

As long as you are not excessively greedy, harm people, try for world domination, or generally cause exposure. Just use the gift in small measures and locally. Don’t try using it on famous people, unless its in private and wont cause waves. But do use it for lust.

The Fae love to feed on lustful energy. Just think back to all the Fae Tales of wild orgies in the woods.

One last thing, everyone has a destiny. You can influence it a bit but don’t try and take someone out from their fated path for too long. It is easier when you are younger as your fate and that of the people you meet is not as set in stone. But don’t try and make your local Mayor go on a hippy backpacking adventure across the country. There destiny has placed them in that position for good or ill.”

“Thanks Grandpa that is a lot to think about. I hope you can visit soon”

“I will laddie, happy birthday again. I love you and have fun”
