Fair Compensation

As the four sat down in the spacious conference room on the top floor the Carly was a little nervous at how confident her husband and his lawyer looked, like they had an ace up the sleeve she didn't know about. Melissa had whispered to her in the lift not to worry about it, that it was all a bluff to unnerve them. If they had any possible way of proving her infidelity they would have mentioned it before now.

Cooper, who was directly facing his legal counterpart began the meeting by producing a document from his briefcase and sliding it across the desk to Melissa.

"What is this supposed to be?" she asked with incredulity as she scanned the document.

"It's for your client to sign. It is an acknowledgement of her infidelity and also forfeits her right to any of my clients money."

"Are you crazy?" Melissa spat back "My client vehemently denies any infidelity. Why on Earth would she sign this?"

"Because you are going to advise her to" Cooper replied smugly.

Melissa looked very confused for a moment. She then passed the paper to Carly and handed her a pen.

"You need to sign this"

"What? Have you all lost your minds?" Carly quickly read through her prepared statement. It was all true, but there was absolutely no need for her to admit to it.

"Just sign it, Carly" Steve told his soon to be ex wife. She did as she was told and slid it over to Steve who triumphantly handed it to Cooper.

"Well, I suppose that concludes our business" A bewildered Melissa was still trying to work out what had just happened.

"Not quite" Cooper smiled "Your client broke my client's heart than the pair of you tried to take him to the cleaners. We feel he is due fair compensation."

"Compensation?" Carly asked in disbelief "My husband is the one with all the money."

"That's okay" a wicked grin was forming on Steve's lips "There are other ways you and your lawyer friend can pay for what you've done."
