Epilogue (Black Jack)

Emily played Monopoly with her biracial daughter and Black Jack, looking at the garden and pool. Since she'd chosen Black Jack, she'd dreamed of a family of mixed grandchildren. Yet fate had denied that. Emily was trapped in a loveless marriage. She was almost certainly sleeping with someone on the side, but it was hard to determine who. Probably a white guy, knowing Emily.

Katie was pregnant by her longtime boyfriend, Peter. They were wedding planning. Elizabeth frowned. Peter was a weak boy, who reminded her much of Douglas. She hadn't thought him capable, to be honest. And Erin was in a relationship with Peter's grandfather. It was a happy end for Elizabeth, but she felt everyone had so much more promise, she thought.

"I passed Go, 200 bucks please," her daughter said. Elizabeth smiled, ruffling her daughter's naturally curvy hair. It could have been a worse end indeed, she thought.
